Farmstead Fresh is a certified organic microgreens producer in Hillsburgh, Ontario, operating a year-round vertical farm within five retrofitted shipping containers. The Role: Assistant Manager

We are seeking a motivated Assistant Manager to partner with the Owner/Manager and lead daily operations. This hands-on role involves overseeing staff, coordinating production and orders, managing inventory and invoicing, and ensuring accuracy and timeliness. The ideal candidate will be trained across all operational areas, enabling them to provide leadership, troubleshoot, support staff, and act as the primary backup for the Manager.

Previous supervisory experience in food production, agriculture, hospitality, manufacturing, or warehousing is preferred. However, we welcome candidates from other fields who can demonstrate strong leadership, workflow organization, problem-solving, and operational management skills.

Key Responsibilities:

- Operations & Team Leadership: Lead daily farm and production activities, direct and support staff, prioritize tasks, and reinforce procedures. Monitor workflow, communicate issues to the Manager, and maintain a positive work environment. Serve as operational lead in the Manager’s absence.
- Production & Food Safety: Support all production tasks (planting, harvesting, packaging, sanitation), ensuring consistent adherence to food safety, quality control, and record-keeping standards. Monitor equipment and production areas.
- Orders, Inventory & Admin: Schedule and coordinate customer orders,



manage inventory, assist with invoicing, and monitor supply needs. Maintain accurate production and operational records using basic computer systems.
- Deliveries & Scheduling: Coordinate and execute Tuesday deliveries, ensuring order accuracy and timeliness. Assist with staff scheduling and provide Manager coverage.

Requirements:

- Previous supervisory or leadership experience.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to lift 30-40 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Availability for statutory holidays and flexibility for Manager coverage.
- Comfort in a food production and agricultural setting.

Assets:

- Experience in food handling/production, agriculture, hospitality, or manufacturing.
- Experience driving larger vehicles.
- Food safety training or experience.

Hours & Compensation: This is a full-time position (approx. 8 AM - 4 PM, Mon-Fri) with flexibility required for operational needs, including holidays. Statutory holidays are paid at 1.5x.

- Starting Wage: $22.55/hour.
- Comprehensive wage review schedule after probation and at annual intervals.

Pay: From $22.55 per hour
