We are currently accepting resumes for an Associate Manager, Benefits Plans to join the Benefits and Retirement Team. This is a full-time, permanent position in our Edmonton Member Centre.

Job Summary:

The Associate Manager, Perks Plans supports the effective management and administration of the Benefits Plans providing specialized expertise, project support, and coordination across a variety of plan activities while working closely with internal and external stakeholders on governance activities, plan initiatives, communications, and complex matters. This position includes multi-jurisdictional responsibilities with travel.

Key Responsibilities:

Benefits Plans Expertise, Regulatory Compliance and Governance Support

- Provides advanced expertise to support consistent interpretation and application of plan provisions.
- Monitors and assesses regulatory changes and their impact on the plans.
- Interprets plan provisions and requirements providing recommendations for application.
- Evaluates routine plan design and pricing changes to support ongoing effectiveness of the plan.
- Coordinates Board of Trustees communications, and governance activities.
- Prepares analysis and recommendations to support Board discussions and decision-making.
- Utilizes and supports benefits administration systems and databases in collaboration with subject matter experts and system partners
- Supports implementation of Board decisions and governance priorities.
- Provides advanced expertise to address complex member, representative, signatory employers, and operational issues requiring interpretation of the plans.
- Acts as a key escalation point for complex issues involving plan interpretation, member issues, and plan matters.

Education, Communication and Engagement
- Develops and delivers education sessions and presentations for members, stewards, representatives, and signatory employers, partnering with specialists as needed.
- Coordinates education and communication activities to promote understanding of the plans and related changes.
- Develops communication materials related to the Benefits Plans, plan changes, and initiatives in partnership with specialist input as required.




- Provides subject matter expertise and responds to complex enquiries from members, representatives, signatory employers, and stewards.
- Builds relationships with key stakeholders to support engagement and plan understanding.
- Identifies opportunities to enhance education and communication efforts.

Financial Support
- Support development of the annual budgets and funding models.
- Provides analysis and expertise to support financial planning and decision-making.
- Partners with the Benefits & Retirement Finance Business Partner to support financial reporting, planning, and operational requirements.
- Reviews financial information related to plans and identifies issues requiring further analysis or action.
- Provides recommendations to support financial decision-making related to the Benefits Plans.

Strategic Priorities, Plan Enhancements and Emerging Issues
- Supports and participates in strategic initiatives, that align with organizational priorities and the objectives of the Benefits & Retirement team.
- Supports the planning and implementation of strategic initiatives, plan enhancements, and special projects across the Benefits Administration team.
- Researches industry trends, emerging issues, and conducts industry benchmarking and competitor analysis.
- Evaluates and provides recommendations on opportunities to enhance plan effectiveness.
- Assesses emerging issues and potential impacts to the plan.
- Prepares analysis, and recommendations to support strategic initiatives and organizational priorities.
- Monitors strategic initiatives and identifies opportunities for continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

- University degree with a specialization in Business Administration, Commerce, Human Resources or another related field or equivalent work experience.
- Group Benefits Associate (GBA) designation or demonstrated progress towards the achievement of the GBA designation required. Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation considered an asset.
- Minimum 5+ years' experience administering or managing complex group benefits plans.
- Experience interpreting benefit plans, applicable legislation, and regulatory requirements.




- Experience supporting benefit plan governance, financial management principles, and stakeholder engagement.
- Strong knowledge of benefit plan administration, funding arrangements, compliance, and industry best practices.

Skills and Experience:

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret and present information accurately, identify issues, and develop practical recommendations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to explain complex benefit information to a variety of audiences.
- Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret legislation, plan provisions, and regulatory requirements and apply them in a practical manner.
- Continuous learner with the ability to adapt to changing priorities, legislation, and business needs.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint

Reporting and Accountability: This position reports directly to the Manager, Benefits Plans

Compensation:

The annual salary will range from $82,986 to $118,552.
