Job Summary

The Associate Vice-Provost (AVP), Student Affairs is a senior executive leadership position responsible for advancing the strategic priorities of Student Affairs and the University while fostering an exceptional, inclusive, and supportive student experience. Reporting directly to the Vice-Provost, Student Affairs (VPSA), the AVP serves as a key advisor, strategic partner, and delegate to the VPSA, providing division-wide leadership and acting on behalf of the VPSA when required. This role oversees critical portfolios related to student engagement, wellness, conduct, care, and risk management, ensuring that services and programs align with the University's academic mission and commitment to student success. The AVP leads the development and implementation of institution-wide policies and initiatives focused on student wellbeing, behavioural intervention, sexual violence prevention and response, equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility, anti-racism, and Indigenization. The position requires solid leadership in complex, high-profile, and sensitive situations.

As a senior leader, the AVP provides strategic oversight to Student Wellness Services and Student Conduct and Care, promotes operational excellence, and collaborates across faculties, academic units, with student leaders,



legal counsel, and the human rights office. The role also serves as a primary liaison with student leaders and student government, ensuring student perspectives inform institutional decision-making and planning.

The ideal candidate brings a graduate degree in a relevant field and extensive progressive leadership experience, including significant experience within postsecondary education and Student Affairs. They possess demonstrated expertise in policy development, organizational leadership, crisis management, adjudication of complex student matters, and student development. Success in this role requires exceptional judgment, political acuity, relationship-building skills, and the ability to navigate competing priorities while maintaining student-centered, trauma-informed, and equity-driven approaches.

This position is highly influential in shaping the University's student experience, institutional culture, and risk management practices.
