BGC South East is currently seeking enthusiastic and dependable Authorized Recreation Afterschool Leaders to join our team for the 2026–2027 school year.
Locations:
- St. Lawrence College (SLC) – Brockville Campus, 2288 Parkedale Ave., Brockville, ON K6V 5X3
- Kemptville, ON
Position Timeline: September 2026 – June 2027 Hours: Up to 30 hours per week
Availability Required: Monday to Friday between 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Rate of Pay: $19.00–$21.00 per hour
Position Overview
Authorized Recreation Afterschool Leaders play a supportive role in delivering exceptional programs and providing positive leadership for children and youth.
In this role, you will assist with the planning, organization, and delivery of BGC South East programs designed to build skills and support the personal, social, and emotional development of young people between the ages of 4 and 18+.
As a member of the BGC South East team, you will be a positive role model who demonstrates honesty, fair play, a positive attitude, cooperation, and respect for yourself and others.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, lead, and participate in engaging programs based on STEM and Robotics education and/or Literacy and Cognitive Wellness.
- Deliver programming that aligns with HIGH FIVE, the BGC Model for Success, and our four program pillars: Food & Nutrition, Health & Wellness, Physical Activity, and Education.
- Supervise children and youth while creating a safe, welcoming, and fun workplace.
- Ensure staff-to-child ratios are maintained at all times.
- Complete required documentation, including incident and accident reports.
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized program spaces.
- Implement behaviour management techniques fairly and effectively in accordance with BGC South East policies and procedures.
- Communicate regularly with the Supervisor/Coordinator regarding programming and ensure programs meet BGC South East standards.
- Participate in staff training sessions and meetings.
- Act as a positive representative of BGC South East in the community and when working with partners.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Currently enrolled in or a graduate of a post-secondary education program.
- Previous experience working in a child-related program, recreation program, or camp setting.
- Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification.
- TDP (10-year booster) and MMR immunizations must be up to date.
- Ability to obtain a Criminal Reference Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation.
- HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) certification is considered an asset.
- Background or interest in STEM education, teaching, coaching, recreation,
or youth leadership is considered an asset.
