Job Overview

Root River Logging is seeking a reliable and experienced AZ Chip Truck Driver to support our forestry chipping operations in Northwestern Ontario.

The successful candidate will be responsible for safely transporting wood chips from active forestry operations to designated mills and delivery locations. This position involves regular travel on remote forestry and logging roads and requires a professional driver who is comfortable operating in challenging and changing road and weather conditions, including Northwestern Ontario winters.

Safety, reliability, equipment care, communication, and sound judgment are essential to this position.

Duties

- Safely operate AZ tractor-trailer/chip hauling units to transport wood chips from forestry operations to designated delivery locations.
- Navigate remote forestry and logging roads, including narrow, uneven, snow-covered, icy, muddy, and seasonally changing road conditions.
- Follow forestry road radio channels, call-point procedures, signage, speed requirements, and other road-use protocols.
- Safely maneuver and position trucks and trailers within active forestry and chipping operations.
- Work safely around chippers, loaders, skidders, and other heavy forestry equipment.
- Conduct required pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of trucks and trailers.
- Identify and promptly report mechanical defects, maintenance concerns, or unsafe conditions.
- Maintain accurate driver logs, ELD records, trip documentation, and other required transportation records.
- Communicate effectively with chipper operators, supervisors, other drivers, dispatch/mill personnel, and members of the forestry operation.
- Perform basic troubleshooting and routine truck and trailer checks where appropriate.
- Follow all Root River Logging health and safety policies, safe work procedures, and applicable commercial transportation requirements.





Qualifications

- Valid Ontario AZ Driver's Licence in good standing.
- Appropriate air brake qualifications for the equipment being operated.
- Commercial tractor-trailer driving experience.
- Acceptable driver's abstract and demonstrated safe driving record.
- Strong knowledge of commercial vehicle inspections and safe tractor-trailer operation.
- Ability to safely and confidently operate on remote forestry and logging roads.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in changing road, traffic, and weather conditions.
- Comfortable driving in Northwestern Ontario winter conditions, including snow, ice, extreme cold, reduced visibility, and rapidly changing road conditions.
- Reliable, safety-conscious, and able to communicate effectively with supervisors and other workers.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to recognize potential truck or trailer maintenance concerns.
- Willingness to work overtime or extended hours when operationally required.

Assets

- Previous chip truck, logging truck, or forestry hauling experience.
- Experience operating tractor-trailers on active forestry/logging road networks.
- Knowledge of mechanized logging and forestry chipping operations.
- Experience working safely around chippers, loaders, skidders, and other heavy equipment.
- Familiarity with Northwestern Ontario forestry roads, mills, and operating conditions.
- Mechanical or automotive troubleshooting experience.

Position Details

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Starting at $36.50 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience

Schedule: Monday to Friday, with some overtime as operationally required

Location: Sioux Lookout area and forestry operating locations in Northwestern Ontario
