About the Role The Forest Practices Board is seeking one part-time Board member to help provide independent oversight of forest and range practices in British Columbia.

The Board serves the public interest by promoting accountability, sound stewardship and continuous improvement in the management of public lands.

Board members provide strategic oversight and serve on panels that consider audits and investigations and make decisions on behalf of the Board.

We are looking for a BC resident with an appropriate combination of education and experience in forestry, biology, environmental studies, natural resource management or a related field. Candidates should understand current forest and range issues, work respectfully with diverse perspectives, exercise independent judgment and communicate effectively in public settings.

Experience gained through community involvement, volunteer roles, paid employment and academic study will be considered. Applicants from all backgrounds and regions of BC are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

Participate on audit and investigation review panels that consider findings and make decisions on behalf of the Board.

Participate in Board meetings and strategic sessions by reviewing materials, sharing relevant information and contributing constructively to discussions and decisions.

Advise the Chair on the Board’s strategic direction and policies and monitor their implementation.

As requested by the Chair, represent the Board at stakeholder meetings, conferences and other events across the province.

Stay informed about public interests,



perceptions and emerging issues affecting forest and range management in BC.

Term, Location & Compensation

This is a part time, as-needed appointment. Members must reside in British Columbia but may live anywhere in the province.

The annual commitment is approximately 25 to 30 days and includes:

Up to eight virtual Board meetings lasting between four and seven hours

Two to three in-person meetings each year, usually lasting two days

Panel work and other duties as required

Members are appointed by Order in Council for an initial term of two to four years, normally three years. This is a Level 3 part-time appointment. Members receive a daily rate of $545 to $605 in accordance with Treasury Board directives and the Board’s remuneration plan.

Why This Role Matters The Board’s work supports sound forest and range practices, public and Indigenous confidence in stewardship and fair application of the Forest and Range Practices Act and the Wildfire Act.

Board members bring an informed public voice and broader societal context to the Board’s work. Their knowledge, judgment and willingness to consider diverse perspectives help ensure the Board’s decisions and recommendations are independent, credible and in the public interest.
