Our client, a leading Canadian food manufacturing and poultry processing organization with state-of-the-art facilities across the country, is seeking an experienced Procurement & Materials Specialist for an immediate 4-month contract.
In this role, you will oversee multi-location purchasing requirements, ensuring operational facilities have the ingredients, packaging, and MRO supplies needed to maintain production schedules. This temporary position offers competitive compensation and the opportunity to support high-volume manufacturing logistics within a respected industry leader.
Key Responsibilities
- Production Supply Planning: Calculate daily, weekly, and monthly usages for ingredients and packaging using MRP and Min/Max inventory systems to issue accurate Purchase Orders (POs).
- Order Expediting & Logistics: Track committed shipments and ETAs, resolve delivery conflicts, and proactively manage backorders to align with master production schedules.
- MRO & Test Run Support: Source required MRO supplies for plant operations and track sample inventory dedicated to test kitchen production builds.
- Vendor & Inventory Management: Monitor consumption rates, optimize inventory mix with end-user teams,
and maintain vendor relationships.
- Reporting & Compliance: Issue regular updates on inventory aging, liabilities, and backorders to plant leadership. Ensure compliance with purchasing policies from PO creation through accounts payable.
- Strategic Sourcing: Assist the Corporate Procurement team with RFQs/RFPs and lead targeted divisional sourcing initiatives.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: Proven purchasing experience within a manufacturing environment (multi-location experience preferred).
- Education: Degree or diploma in Supply Chain, Logistics, or Business Administration is preferred. Active enrollment in or completion of supply chain designations (NISCL, SCMA, MCIPS, or equivalent) is an asset.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with MRP/ERP inventory systems, purchase order management software, and intermediate-to-advanced Excel.
- Key Attributes: High agility to troubleshoot fast-paced supply chain issues, robust analytical skills, and clear verbal and written communication.
