In-Home Care Aide – Dementia Support
Location: In-home (Retirement Resort)
Reports to: Family/Client Representative
Schedule: [3–4 shifts/day; mornings/afternoons; specific hours to be discussed]
About the Client
We are seeking a compassionate, reliable in-home care aide to provide support to an 82-year-old male with early-onset dementia and short-term memory loss. The role includes medication assistance three times per day, help with daily routines (especially around meals), and companionship.
Key Responsibilities
- Medication support (3 times per day)
- Remind the client to take medications as scheduled.
- Assist with administration only as permitted/outlined by the client/family and in accordance with local requirements.
- Document medication completion using provided instructions/logs (if required).
- Meal support
- Help the client get to meals and back to his living area.
- Offer reminders and encouragement to maintain routine.
- Assist with basic needs related to eating (as needed).
- Companionship and engagement
- Provide friendly conversation and supportive presence.
- Encourage activities appropriate for early-stage dementia (light games, reading, music, short walks if safe).
- Provide reassurance and calm redirection when the client becomes confused or forgetful.
- Daily living support (as needed)
- Assist with light household tasks related to caregiving (e.g., setting up meals, simple tidying).
- Support hygiene routines and mobility with dignity and patience.
- Safety and wellbeing
- Monitor for immediate safety concerns and follow family instructions for contacting the appropriate person.
- Maintain a calm, respectful approach and follow care guidelines to prevent falls and confusion-related incidents.
- Communication
- Provide updates to family after each shift (meals eaten, medication completed, mood/behavior changes, any concerns).
Required Qualifications
- Prior experience in caregiving/home care (experience with dementia/elder care is a plus).
- Patience, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow medication instructions precisely and consistently.
- Reliability and punctuality.
- Comfort working in a home workplace with a person who may have memory impairment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using care logs/shift notes.
- Training or experience related to dementia care, Alzheimer’s care, or senior support.
- Valid driver’s license (only if transport is required) and clean driving record (if applicable).
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

- Communication plan for questions or concerns during shifts.
