The Chemistry & Microbiology Lab Technician

As a member of our Research and Development team*,* the Chemistry & Microbiology Lab Technician supports the Research and Development Department through chemistry and microbiology testing, sample and material preparation, documentation of results, and maintenance of laboratory equipment and materials.

The Chemistry & Microbiology Technician is also responsible for ensuring laboratory work is completed in accordance with established protocols, regulatory requirements, quality standards, and company policies.

A day in the life of the Chemistry & Microbiology Technician might include…

- Following safety and biosafety protocols while maintaining a clean, organized lab environment and applying aseptic techniques throughout the day.
- Completing laboratory work in a way that supports regulatory requirements and quality standards.
- Conducting and tracking microbial efficacy testing against bacteria, spores, fungi, mycobacteria, and viruses using standardized test methods.
- Running routine HPLC tests and troubleshooting the equipment when needed.
- Preparing new stock cultures of microorganisms used for in-house testing, as required.
- Preparing and sterilizing materials, sanitizing equipment, and validating equipment when required for microbial testing.
- Preparing media, test samples, and reagents used across different laboratory tests.
- Conducting analytical chemistry testing, including titrations, pH measurements, density measurements, and related tests.




- Performing monthly bioburden testing on DI water samples received from Quality Control.
- Coordinating and handling the disposal of biohazard waste.
- Preparing formulation samples for internal testing, external laboratory testing, and sample requests.
- Assisting with the design, setup, and execution of experiments and tests in line with research protocols and project requirements.
- Maintaining accurate laboratory notebooks and documentation, and preparing technical summaries and reports of experimental results when required.
- Operating, calibrating, maintaining, and troubleshooting laboratory equipment to support smooth lab operations.
- Collaborating with other departments when needed and leading compatibility and cleaning studies as required.
- Preparing and standardizing consumable reagents.
- Participating in investigations and troubleshooting initiatives to help identify and resolve laboratory issues.
- Working closely with team members to support ongoing projects.
- Managing inventory of lab supplies, chemicals, materials, and microorganism stock cultures.
- Contacting suppliers, placing orders when required, and ensuring materials are properly stored.
- Other duties and responsibilities, as required.

Do you have what you need to succeed?

- A college diploma or degree in a relevant field. Chemistry, biology, microbiology, biochemistry or biotechnology preferred. Alternatively, a sufficient amount of related experience is acceptable.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional work experience in a lab environment.
- Familiar with Good Laboratory Practices.
- Experience with HPLC (sample prep, sample runs), is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel,



PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Proficiency in laboratory techniques and equipment usage.
- Strong understanding of experimental procedures and data analysis methods.
- Ability to adhere to safety procedures and work safely with chemicals.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to prepare clear and concise reports as required High level of accuracy and attention to detail in conducting experiments.
- Ability to demonstrate good time management and multitasking skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues independently.
- Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
