Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Child Therapist (Play-Based) to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children ages 0–12 years, preferably in pediatric or child-focused settings, and will be responsible for providing high-quality, play-based therapeutic care. The therapist will work closely with child clients and their families to assess needs, develop treatment plans, and implement therapeutic interventions that support healthy development and overall well-being.
This position requires availability for evening hours and possibly weekends.
Responsibilities
- Provide play-based therapy sessions to children ages 0–12, utilizing evidence-based practices and techniques.
- Conduct comprehensive general assessments of child clients to identify their needs and develop individualized treatment plans. Formal assessment opportunities may be available if the candidate is interested.
- Monitor client progress and adjust treatment plans as needed based on data collection and clinical observations.
- Educate clients and families about therapeutic techniques and strategies to support ongoing development at home and in other settings.
- Collaborate with other healthcare and mental health professionals, including physicians, nurses, and case managers, to ensure comprehensive, coordinated care.
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation of client interactions, treatment plans, and progress notes in accordance with professional and medical terminology standards.
- Engage in case management activities to coordinate services and supports for clients within the clinical setting.
- Participate in research or quality-improvement initiatives and ongoing professional development to enhance therapeutic practices and outcomes for pediatric clients.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Psychology, Counselling, Social Work, or related discipline).
- Experience providing therapy to children in a clinical, community, or educational setting is preferred.
- Training or experience in play therapy or play-based approaches is an asset.
- Knowledge of special education practices is a plus.
- Familiarity with data collection methods and case management processes.
- Strong understanding of medical and developmental terminology related to pediatric care.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong rapport with children and their families.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team workplace.
- Demonstrated commitment to providing compassionate, ethical client care while maintaining professional standards.
- Availability to work evening hours and potentially some weekends.
Job Types: Part-time, Freelance Pay: $108.00-$120.00 per hour
