About the Role
Gaynor Family Regional Library (GFRL) is looking for a friendly, organized, and community-minded Children's Library Clerk to join our Children's Department. In this role, you'll help create a welcoming and positive experience for young patrons and their families, working closely with the Children's Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator, and as part of our broader library clerking team.

What You'll Do
Circulation & Collections
- Serve as a circulation clerk using our Library Information System (Follett Destiny) to check materials in and out, shelve items, process renewals, and register current library users
- Process new items, retire outdated materials, and mend damaged books
- Support special projects such as bibliographic searching, booklist creation, inventory, displays, and shelving reorganization
Customer Service
- Staff the Children's Information Desk, offering friendly and knowledgeable assistance
- Help children navigate public access computers
- Provide reference support using your knowledge of children's literature and resources
- Refer more complex questions to the department head or other departments as needed
Programs & Outreach
- Plan and deliver engaging programs and tours for children and families (ages 0–12)
- Bring knowledge of children's books, songs, rhymes, and activities to program planning, in collaboration with the Children's Coordinator
Additional Responsibilities
- Design posters, brochures, bookmarks, and other promotional materials
- Create content for the library website, including booklists
- Support ongoing collection maintenance with the department head
- Assist at the Main Desk as part of the regular clerking team
What You Bring
- High school diploma required; some post-secondary education is an asset
- 1–2 years of related experience in a library setting or working with children preferred
- Comfortable with word processing and internet searching
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- A genuine enthusiasm for children's literature and connecting kids with books
