RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, this bilingual communications professional will play a key role in informing and engaging the RI-MUHC (The Institute) community of researchers, trainees, employees, as well as its diverse network of partners, followers and the wider public.

The Communications Advisor will promote The Institute in a manner consistent with the organization’s commitment to excellence in biomedical research and to improving the health of individual patients across their lifespan.

General Duties

- Create written and visual content to promote scientific discoveries, research events, and stories of excellence from the researchers, trainees and staff at The Institute. Liaise with stakeholders to develop and edit relevant content,
- Adjust content for sharing via multiple internal and external communications channels, including The Institute’s website, intranet and social media, striving to maximize audience reach while maintaining the highest professional standards,
- Contribute to maintaining and improving the Institute’s various communications channels, including website, intranet, email newsletters and social media,
- Effectively support and promote activities and events relevant to The Institute’s community,
- Uphold and extend The Institute branding in both physical and digital spaces,




- Act as a business partner to internal client groups to advise them on their communications,
- Participate in the development of annual goals, objectives and action plans for The Institute’s Communications team,
- Coordinate with McGill, MUHC, and other external communications teams as required,
- Participate in special projects and perform other duties as requested.

Standards of performance

- Excellent writing and editing skills. Able to create compelling content that is consistently of the highest quality;
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex concepts and data, such as scientific and technical information, into content accessible to a wider audience;
- Strong organizational skills. Able to handle and prioritize multiple projects and work with multiple stakeholders in a diverse and diffuse environment;
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team in a fast-paced, changing, deadline-oriented workplace;
- Demonstrated professionalism and discretion, and exceptional interpersonal skills;
- Proven ability to work with applications and tools related to communications:
- Experience with newsletter tools (e.g., Mailchimp) and web/intranet content management tools (WordPress)
- Solid working knowledge of visual content creation tools (Canva, Adobe Suite).
- Basic knowledge of performance tracking and analytics (Google Analytics, social media monitoring tools)

Education / Experience

Education: Bachelor's Degree

Field of Study: Communications, Journalism, Marketing or a degree in a scientific discipline with strong communications experience from a work environment

Work Experience: 3+ years experience in a marketing communications environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skills

- Fluent in French and English,



spoken and written,
- Strong writing, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively with a variety of individuals and organizations,
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision,
- Knowledge of the university and healthcare sector an asset,
- Understanding of biomedical research an asset.

Additional information Status : Full Time (35 hour work week)

Pay Scale: $50,960.00 to $94,658.20. Commensurate with education & work experience.

Work Shift: 9:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m, Mondays to Fridays.

Work Site: Multisites. Hybrid (2 days per week in office)
