About W2RO Waste to Resource Ontario (W2RO) is a voluntary member-based association with over 220 organizations across the province including private sector companies, public sector municipalities, and organizations and individuals involved in the waste management and recycling sector in Ontario. Together they manage over 85% of the province’s waste and 90% of the province’s recycling. W2RO member have diverse interests and capital investments in areas such as waste and recycling collection, landfills, energy from waste, transfer stations, material recovery facilities, organics processing and composting, and hazardous waste from both a recycling and disposal perspective.

Position Overview As the Communications Coordinator, you will be responsible for the development, coordination and execution of W2RO communications to internal and external audiences.

The Communications

Coordinator assists in the development and delivery of an overall communications strategy for the organization through a variety of communication tools, platforms and resources. The role will be responsible for coordinating social media channels and driving engagement and growth of the brand by supporting creative efforts via graphic, multimedia design and content management across various websites and digital platforms. This role operates under the day-to-day guidance of the Manager, Member Services & Events and in accordance with the overarching direction of the Chief Executive Officer.

The Communications

Coordinator is responsible for several core functions, but not limited to: Work closely with the Manager, Member Services & Events to develop and maintain a solid brand identity and reputation while supporting W2RO’s strategic plan and objectives.

Manage and write content for news releases, Member Bulletins, weekly eNewsletter, W2RO website, speaking notes, social media and other communications materials.

Lead development and creation of content on W2RO’s digital and social media platforms.

Prepare, research, edit and format various W2RO documents, fact sheets,



reports and presentations as required.

Provide design, formatting and layout support of W2RO communication materials targeted at internal and external audiences.

Provide media relations support to the Chief Executive Officer.

Manage W2RO’s internal and external mailing lists.

Manage W2RO’s media inquiries, tracker and contact lists.

Coordinate and manage communications efforts and materials for W2RO webinars and events.

Support the entire W2RO team, filling in wherever additional help is needed to meet deadlines, finish projects or coordinate events.

Qualifications & Experience: Post-secondary education in Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations/Communications, or equivalent work experience in related field (communication/marketing).

Advanced knowledge in digital communications including social media, website and email design.

Knowledge and experience using web and social media management tools (ex. WordPress, Mailchimp, Wix, etc).

Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator), Demonstrated strong writing, editing and storytelling skills for social platforms, email, web, blogs, etc.

Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines, independently or within a team environment.

Demonstrate creativity and attention to detail.

Outgoing nature with the ability to build and maintain relationships with colleagues, industry partners, members and external audiences. This is a full-time position offering a competitive combination of salary and benefits.

Pay range for this role is $55,000 - $65,000 CAD per annum. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and job-related factors. The Association offers some flexibility in working environment with interesting and challenging opportunities in the policy development and government relations field, as well as involvement, as a team member, in the wide variety of activities of a small, dynamic office group.

The office location is in Etobicoke, Ontario and the position requires some flexibility in working hours, and some travel inside Ontario.
