Position Summary

The Companion provides hands-on support to residents in a continuing care setting, helping them maintain comfort, dignity, independence, and quality of life. Working as part of an interdisciplinary care team, the Companion assists residents with personal care, daily routines, mobility, and mealtime support while fostering meaningful relationships with seniors.

Key Responsibilities

- Assist residents with personal care activities including grooming, bathing, dressing, and toileting.

- Support residents with mobility and safely escort or porter residents throughout the community.

- Assist with meal service, meal set-up, feeding assistance, and hydration support as required.

- Encourage resident independence while providing compassionate, resident-centered care.

- Build positive relationships and provide companionship to promote emotional well-being.

- Maintain clean, safe, and welcoming resident environments through light housekeeping duties.

- Observe resident needs and communicate concerns to appropriate members of the care team.

- Participate in recreational and social activities that enhance resident engagement and quality of life.

Qualifications





- Genuine passion for working with seniors and supporting their well-being.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

- Compassionate, patient, and respectful approach to resident care.

- Currently enrolled in or working toward completion of a Health Care Aide program is considered a strong asset.

- Previous experience supporting seniors in a healthcare, hospitality, or continuing care setting is an asset.

Other Bona-Fide Occupational Requirements

- Physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of the position (may be required to lift, move, push, or pull objects weighing up to 20 kilograms).

- Ability to work on his/her feet for a complete shift while constantly bending, stretching, walking, lifting or moving things.

- A current and clear Criminal Records Check completed in the past six (6) months including Vulnerable Sector Check is required for all new site-based employees.

- Physically capable of performing assigned duties within a flexible work schedule inside a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week operation.

- Must be able to work evenings, nights, and weekends, as required.
