Job Summary
NewGig Computers is looking for a Computer Repair Technician / Retail Associate to join our team at our Paris, Ontario location.
This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys diagnosing computer problems, repairing laptops and desktops, and helping customers find practical solutions to their technology needs.
The ideal candidate should be comfortable working independently, troubleshooting both hardware and software issues, communicating with customers, and handling day-to-day retail store responsibilities.
Experience with cell phone, MacBook, gaming PC, or board-level repair is an asset.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose hardware and software problems on laptops and desktop computers.
- Troubleshoot Windows and macOS operating system issues.
- Perform Windows installations, updates, driver installations, virus removal, and software troubleshooting.
- Replace and upgrade components such as SSDs, hard drives, RAM, batteries, keyboards, screens, fans, and other laptop/desktop components.
- Diagnose computers that do not power on, boot properly, charge, display video, or connect to networks.
- Perform data transfers, backups, and basic data recovery.
- Test, clean, refurbish, and prepare used computers for resale.
- Assist with repairs of gaming PCs and custom desktop systems.
- Diagnose and repair smartphones and tablets when required and within the technician's skill level.
- Explain diagnostic results, repair options, costs, and recommendations clearly to customers.
- Assist customers with computer, accessory, and refurbished-device purchases.
- Create and maintain accurate repair tickets, diagnostic notes, and parts records.
- Keep the repair bench, tools, and retail area organized.
- Follow proper procedures when handling customer devices and data.
Qualifications & Experience
- Previous experience repairing laptops and desktop computers is strongly preferred.
- Good understanding of computer hardware, including motherboards, processors, RAM, storage, batteries, displays, and peripherals.
- Strong Windows troubleshooting skills.
- Familiarity with macOS is an asset.
- Smartphone and tablet repair experience is an asset.
- Gaming PC building and troubleshooting experience is an asset.
- Board-level repair, soldering, microsoldering, or schematic-reading experience is an asset but not required.
- Comfortable using diagnostic software and common electronic repair tools.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting ability.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Able to work independently and manage multiple repairs.
- Reliable, organized, and detail-oriented.
- Comfortable working in a retail environment and assisting customers with sales.
What We’re Looking For We are looking for someone who doesn’t simply replace parts, but can troubleshoot a problem logically and determine what is actually causing it.
You should be comfortable learning recent repair procedures, researching unfamiliar problems, and taking ownership of repairs from diagnosis through completion.

Pay: $18.00-$22.00 per hour
