Salary Range: $55,000 – $65,000 THE ROLE
We’re looking for a Content Creator & Social Media Specialist to help create and grow content across two of hockey’s most recognizable brands: The Hockey News and TRUE Hockey. This is a hands-on role for someone who can take a raw story, interview, product, athlete, event or idea and own it from: IDEA → CREATION → EDITING → PACKAGING → PUBLISHING → PERFORMANCE You’ll work across editorial, marketing, partnerships and brand teams to create content that informs, entertains and connects with hockey fans and players.
We’re looking for someone who doesn't just ask “What should we post?” but thinks:
What’s the story?
What’s going to make people stop scrolling?
What else can we create from this?
How do we make this work across multiple platforms?
Can this drive traffic, audience growth, engagement or sales?
Is there a bigger brand or partnership opportunity here? WHAT YOU’LL DO Content Creation
Create original, social-first content for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube/YouTube Shorts, Facebook, LinkedIn and X.
Turn articles, breaking news, interviews, products, athlete content, events and partner assets into compelling content.
Shoot and edit short-form video and create longer-form content when required.
Identify the strongest moments from longer content and turn them into multiple social assets.
Write captions, headlines, hooks, scripts and other social copy.
Create simple graphics using Canva, Adobe Creative Suite or similar tools.
Adapt content for different platforms, audiences and objectives.
Capture photo and video content at shoots, events, tournaments and athlete appearances.
The Hockey News
Monitor hockey news,
trends and social conversations and identify opportunities in real time.
Work closely with editorial to turn breaking news, interviews, features and original reporting into social content.
Understand how social can drive traffic back to The Hockey News website.
Identify opportunities to turn one story into multiple formats and platforms.
Maintain robust editorial judgment and accuracy, particularly around breaking and sensitive news.
TRUE Hockey
Create content around products, athletes, ambassadors, creators, events and hockey culture.
Help bring product launches and brand campaigns to life through social-first storytelling.
Work with athletes, creators and partners to develop authentic content that performs.
Capture behind-the-scenes content that makes the brand feel human and connected to the hockey community.
Social & Performance
Own day-to-day content creation, publishing and scheduling across both brands.
Understand that every platform requires a different approach.
Monitor engagement, reach, video views, traffic and audience growth.
Use analytics to understand what is working and improve future content.
Stay ahead of social trends, emerging formats and platform changes.
Manage community engagement and identify opportunities to participate in relevant conversations.
Commercial Thinking
We want someone who understands that great content can create business value.
You’ll work with marketing, partnerships and commercial teams to identify opportunities to:
Support campaigns and partnerships.
Create value for advertisers and brand partners.
Drive website traffic and audience growth.
Support product launches and commerce.
Develop content formats that can scale across brands and platforms.
Editorial integrity and brand credibility always come first.
WHAT YOU BRING
2–5 years of experience creating content for a media company, sports organization, consumer brand, agency or similar environment.
Strong short-form video editing skills using Premiere Pro, CapCut or similar.
Strong photography, videography and mobile content skills.
Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills.
Strong storytelling instincts and an understanding of what makes content perform.
Experience managing and publishing across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn and X.
Basic graphic design skills using Canva, Adobe or similar tools.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to work quickly under tight deadlines.
Comfortable working independently while collaborating across multiple teams.
Experience using analytics and social publishing tools.
Comfortable using AI tools such as ChatGPT to improve creativity, efficiency and workflow.
Strong hockey knowledge and genuine passion for the sport. Please provide a portfolio or work samples (website, social media accounts or examples of work) with your resume. Were excited to see what you have done! The interview process may have a practical content exercise, as apart of the process. Nice to Have
Background in journalism, digital media, communications, marketing or content creation.
Experience in sports media, sports marketing or consumer products.
Experience working with athletes, influencers, creators or brand ambassadors.
Experience with live events, product launches or sponsored content.
Understanding of website traffic, SEO, audience development or e-commerce.
