Coordinator, Access to Practical Nursing The Access to Practical Nursing (APN) Program Coordinator supports a one‑time APN offering at the Port Alberni campus, providing educational leadership in support of students and faculty, including diploma, pathway, and contract programming. The coordinator is responsible for supporting instructional faculty with program delivery, developing new programming, reviewing programs, ensuring relevance to industry needs, and aligning with regional economic development plans and NIC’s BUILD 2026 strategic plan.

Responsibilities 1. In collaboration with the office of the Dean and industry experts, actively support program development, delivery, and innovation, including funding proposals and reporting.

- Support faculty and act as liaison with the Office of the Dean.
- Collaborate with the Office of the Dean and Office of Teaching and Learning to initiate and conduct program reviews.
- Facilitate regular meetings to ensure faculty are apprised of programming and regional developments.
- Coordinate with the Department Chair(s) to support program/course articulation and external industry-based accreditation processes.
- Advise on and apply college policies to faculty and students, communicate concerns to the dean or appropriate committee.
- Support enrollment management and liaise with industry and Student Services to maximize enrollments and review marketing & recruitment strategies.
- Actively engage with relevant college committees.
- Participate in recruitment and promotional activities.
- Monitor training needs, industry, and employment trends specific to health and human services.
- Assist in onboarding and orientation of faculty with the Dean’s Office and Department Chair.
- Develop and facilitate new student orientation to institution and program.
- Review program commencement and first year implementation.
- Establish connections with student advisors to support academic and personal success.
- Maintain effective communication with faculty, staff, and external partners to foster collaboration and promote program success.
- Collaborate with high school recruiters and marketing professionals to increase program visibility and attract prospective students.

Ensure

Indigenous‑led learning is a key component by working with an Elder and actively recruiting Indigenous learners.

- Provide support to students experiencing challenges and promote well‑being.
- Perform other responsibilities as determined by the Dean and/or Associate Dean.

Student

Support 1. Support student (and/or parent/guardian) inquiries while liaising with faculty.

- Assist students in consultation with student services and practice regarding resources, work transition, and employment success.
- Respond to academic inquiries related to policy and programs. Leadership & Planning 1. Work with Department Chair(s) and advisory committees to develop mid‑ and long‑range program goals and tactical plans.
- Encourage and support faculty professional development in educational theory and practice.
- Advising on program scheduling that best supports student success.

Curriculum

Development & Revision 1. Support faculty to maintain, revise, or develop and expand educational experiences that meet learner, practice, and agency needs. Communication 1. Liaise with Department Chairs on programming and instructional considerations.

- Liaise with department members and students regarding matters from college committees.

Qualifications - Master’s degree in a relevant field of Health and Human Services.

- Minimum of three years demonstrated experience in post‑secondary education and instruction.
- Experience in program development, project management, student recruitment, and retention.
- Experience engaging and collaborating with practice partners and employers.
- Experience with community‑based programming supporting Indigenous and under‑represented learners.
- Knowledge and experience using diverse student‑centred resources for employment and work search success.




- Knowledge of North Island College policies, procedures, and systems. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities - Demonstrated leadership and project management skills.
- Ability to work under tight timelines and manage skilled relationships.
- Experience designing high‑quality student learning experiences, integrating learning technologies.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience formalizing work‑integrated learning opportunities.
- Experience with student‑centred research initiatives.
- Marketing and public relations skills.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Progressive planning and organizational skills with conflict resolution.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, database management, learning management systems.
- Ability to foster a collegial and positive work environment.
- Collaborative skills for program development and change management.
- Commitment to continuous improvement.
- Familiarity with contract training models.
- Strong work ethic and accountability.
- Valid BC driver’s license and willingness to travel between campuses.
