Job Overview
INOVA is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Cost Accountant to join our Finance team. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of product costing, inventory valuation, and manufacturing cost analysis. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting month-end financial reporting, maintaining standard costing within our ERP system, and providing valuable insights into manufacturing performance through cost variance analysis.
This position is ideal for an accounting professional with experience in a manufacturing environment who enjoys working with financial data, ERP systems, and cross-functional teams to improve operational and financial performance.
Responsibilities
- Perform month-end cost accounting activities, including preparing journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
- Maintain and update standard costs for raw materials, work-in-process (WIP), and finished goods within the ERP system (Syteline).
- Analyze actual manufacturing costs compared to standard costs and investigate material, labor, and overhead variances.
- Prepare detailed variance analyses and provide recommendations to management.
- Reconcile inventory sub-ledgers to the general ledger to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare inventory valuation and analysis reports to support financial reporting and business decisions.
- Coordinate physical inventory counts with warehouse and operations teams and investigate inventory discrepancies.
- Monitor obsolete, slow-moving, and excess inventory, recommending appropriate inventory reserve adjustments.
- Support internal and external audits by providing accurate documentation and financial analysis.
- Identify opportunities to improve costing processes, inventory controls, and reporting efficiencies.
- Collaborate with Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, and Production teams to ensure accurate costing and inventory management.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Cost Accountant or Manufacturing Accountant role.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment is required.
- Experience with ERP systems; knowledge of Syteline (Infor CSI) is considered an asset.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including data analysis and reporting.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and inventory accounting.
- Knowledge of Canadian GAAP and accounting best practices.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.

- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.

Work Environment
- Full-time, in office position based in Calgary, Alberta.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
- Occasional participation in physical inventory counts outside of regular business hours may be required.
