Full Description

Hiredbuddy is seeking an entry-level Database Administrator to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of our database systems, ensuring they are secure, reliable, and performant. This is an excellent chance to grow your skills in a supportive setting while working remotely.

As a Database Administrator, you will support the design, implementation, and maintenance of database solutions that underpin our company's operations. You will collaborate with developers, engineers, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into effective database structures. Your primary focus will be on maintaining data integrity, optimizing query performance, and ensuring that our databases are always available.

Your key responsibilities will include:

- Installing, configuring, and upgrading database software (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server)
- Monitoring database health, performance, and capacity, and taking proactive action to prevent issues
- Implementing and managing backup and recovery procedures to protect critical data
- Writing and optimizing SQL queries and stored procedures
- Troubleshooting database errors and performance bottlenecks
- Managing user access and ensuring security best practices are followed
- Documenting database schemas, processes, and procedures
- Assisting with database capacity planning and growth forecasting

You will be mentored by senior database engineers and will have opportunities to work with modern cloud technologies like AWS RDS or Azure SQL. You'll also get exposure to data modeling, indexing strategies, and automation tools.

This is a hands-on role where attention to detail and a proactive mindset are essential. You will be expected to communicate clearly and work independently as well as part of a cross-functional team. As an entry-level position, we are looking for candidates who have a strong foundational understanding of databases and a genuine enthusiasm for data management.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
- 0-2 years of experience in database administration or a relevant internship
- Strong proficiency in SQL and a solid understanding of relational database concepts
- Familiarity with at least one major database platform (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server)
- Basic knowledge of Linux/Unix commands and shell scripting is a plus
- Exposure to cloud database services (AWS RDS, Azure SQL) is beneficial
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment
