Reporting to the Development Manager, you will join the Application Development Team in a permanent full-time position. This is primarily a database platform and reliability role, with approximately 70% of the position focused on SQL Server and Azure SQL administration and 30% focused on DevOps automation, CI/CD, observability, and infrastructure as code.

You will support database workloads running on Azure virtual machines and Azure SQL platform services while partnering with application development, infrastructure, and security teams to improve deployment safety, availability, recovery, scalability, and operational efficiency. You are an experienced SQL Server professional who applies modern reliability engineering, cloud, and DevOps practices to database platforms. You bring strong knowledge of T‑SQL, query optimization, SQL Server internals, backup and recovery, high availability, and production incident management.

You enjoy resolving complex performance issues, eliminating repetitive operational work through automation, and collaborating with developers and technology teams to build secure, scalable, and supportable systems. You communicate clearly, document decisions, and take a thoughtful, systematic approach to change and risk.

Reliability and Administration Design, deploy, administer, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases supporting C#/.NET applications. Manage backups, restores, indexing, integrity checks, patching, maintenance, and disaster recovery testing. Monitor database health, availability, capacity, and performance; identify trends and address risks proactively.

Lead the investigation and resolution of SQL‑related incidents, including root cause analysis and corrective actions. Maintain current runbooks, configuration standards, architecture diagrams, and operational documentation.

Performance

Engineering and Development Collaboration Partner with software developers and solution architects to design and improve database schemas, stored procedures, queries, and data access patterns. Review and optimize T‑SQL code, execution plans, indexing strategies, and resource usage. Provide practical performance recommendations and support testing before production releases. Contribute to version‑controlled database change management, deployment, validation, and rollback practices.

Azure Database

Platform and Cloud Migration Administer and optimize Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and SQL Server on Azure virtual machines. Support secure Azure database connectivity, including virtual networks, service endpoints, private endpoints, identity, and access controls. Plan and execute migrations from on‑premises SQL Server environments to appropriate Azure database services.

DevOps, Automation, and Infrastructure as Code Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for database changes using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions. Use database deployment tooling such as Flyway, Redgate, Liquibase, or DACPACs to deliver version‑controlled schema changes safely. Automate database administration and operational workflows using PowerShell, Azure CLI, or other appropriate scripting languages.

Implement automated checks, monitoring, alerting, and repeatable recovery procedures that reduce manual effort and operational risk. Apply database security best practices for encryption, privileged access, auditing, vulnerability management, and data protection. Forecast capacity and scalability needs and recommend appropriate service tiers, resource configurations, and architecture changes.

Evaluate new database technologies and practices when they provide a clear improvement in reliability, security, performance, or manageability. Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience. Five or more years of hands‑on Microsoft SQL Server database administration experience in production environments.

Deep expertise in T‑SQL, query optimization, execution plans, indexing, performance troubleshooting, and SQL Server internals. Strong experience with backup and recovery, high availability, disaster recovery, monitoring,

capacity planning, and incident management. Hands‑on experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, or SQL Server on Azure virtual machines.

Experience with Git and CI/CD practices for database changes using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or a comparable platform. Strong scripting and automation skills using PowerShell or another relevant language.

Experience securing Azure database connectivity through virtual networks, service endpoints, or private endpoints.

Experience with database change management tools such as Flyway, Redgate, Liquibase, or DACPACs. Familiarity with Azure Data Factory, Azure Blob Storage, and cloud‑native monitoring, logging, and alerting. Working knowledge of Docker or Kubernetes and containerized database use cases in development or test environments.

Familiarity with microservices architecture, data governance, partitioning, or high‑volume database design. Microsoft certification in Azure database administration, Azure architecture, or DevOps engineering. Reliable monitoring and actionable alerting are established across the supported SQL estate.

Database deployments and rollback procedures are automated, repeatable, and version controlled. Restore and disaster recovery procedures are tested, documented, and understood by the relevant teams. Recurring database performance issues are reduced through root cause remediation and proactive tuning.

Selected workloads are assessed and migrated to appropriate Azure database services with controlled risk. Database security, privileged access, auditing, runbooks, and architecture documentation are measurably improved. You will be provided with a company laptop, headset, and home‑office monitor, keyboard, and mouse.
