Job Overview The delivery driver/yard worker is responsible for delivering products and/or supplies to customers, vendors, jobsites, or other corporate locations and maintaining the lumberyard. Duties include operating freight handling equipment, maintenance and operation of company vehicles, verification of administrative paperwork, loading and unloading materials, storing them in the proper locations and working with the public at large. The delivery driver/yard worker must safely perform all assigned tasks with sufficient speed and accuracy to avoid adverse impact on the level of customer service.

They must also greet and serve yard customers and, therefore, need to be familiar with inventory, returns and exchange policies.

BONA-FIDE requirements

- Valid Class 3 Driver’s Licence with Air Qualification
- 3 years previous experience driving Commercial Vehicles
- Must maintain a good driving record and lawfully operate all company vehicles used to make deliveries.
- Must be able to visually verify contents of shipments.
- Must safely secure cargo.
- Must move merchandise weighing up to 100 pounds to or from company vehicles in the delivery process.

Duties/Responsibilities

- Ensure customers are greeted within 1 minute of entering the area.
- Keep the yard clean and the inventory neat and orderly.
- Check incoming merchandise against packing slips; identify damaged goods, shortages withshipper/receiver
- Report any shortages, damaged goods, and backorders to shipper/receiver
- Maintain proper security over merchandise and delivery documents.
- Identify and assist customers with advice, information, and/or help in gathering and loading orders. Assist customers in handling large or heavy items.
- Resolve customer complaints. Don’t leave customer unsatisfied.



Report complaints from customers to management.
- Be aware of theft and act, in line with company policy, to report or discourage it.
- Attend meetings, training sessions, etc. as required.
- Help in training new employees.
- Work on any special projects assigned by your supervisor, after determining their priority in relation to your other duties.
- Make suggestions for rule, policy, or procedure changes when you believe such changes will improve sales, profits, and/or morale, etc.
- Be familiar with the safe operation and maintenance of equipment, including forklift, lumber cart, pallet jack, banding machine, etc. Report all required tool/equipment maintenance immediately.
- Follow all safety precautions when operating company vehicles, handling freight, tools, and equipment, and loading or unloading freight.
- Work in a safe manner in accordance to provincial and federal safety legislation, as well as use of good judgement. Report any potential hazards and unsafe behavior to management in order to have the situation corrected.
- Follow safe job procedures as outlined in the Company Safety Manual. Read, review &understand; all store policies and procedures as laid out in the policy manual
-  Deliver purchases and/or pick up returned goods.
-  Assist in loading and unloading merchandise and materials.
-  Do odd jobs and run errands.




-  Perform light vehicle maintenance (check oil, etc.), perform vehicle/equipment inspections as per company policy
-  Report company vehicle maintenance needs to supervisor.
-  Follow company procedures regarding required signatures, forms, receipts, etc.
-  Follow all delivery and receiving procedures and company policies as determined bymanagement.
-  Follow proper documentation procedures for any merchandise that is to be returned orrefused.
-  Ensure proper paperwork is completed and company procedures followed when product isreturned from job site
-  Be familiar with the locations(s) of all inventory, tools and equipment and return to the properlocation after use.
-  Store material in correct locations in the yard.
-  Special orders to be correctly labeled with customer name and product number (SKU)

EDUCATION/SKILLS REQUIRED

- WHMIS, TDG, and Forklift certification which will be provided on the job
- Able to communicate courteously, considerately, and effectively with customers, management, other employees in person, by telephone, or by radio.
- Ability to work a versatile schedule including weekends, evenings and holidays.
- Safely operate loading, unloading, and transfer equipment (forklifts, pushcarts, etc.), as well as company vehicles.
- Good mathematical skills.
- Organizational abilities.
- Ability to work co-operatively in a team atmosphere.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

- Report directly to the yard supervisor and/or LBM manager.
- Meet with yard supervisor for annual performance review.

Pay: $22.00-$24.00 per hour
