Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Dermatology Nurse to join our dynamic healthcare team. In this vital role, you will provide expert nursing care to patients with various skin conditions, assist dermatologists during examinations and procedures, and ensure a positive patient experience. Duties
- Assist dermatologists and other physicians during patient consultations, biopsies, minor skin surgeries, laser treatments, and specialized dermatology procedures in a fast paced clinical environment.
- Conduct patient assessments, including collection of relevant medical history, review of presenting concerns, and preparation of patients for examination and procedures.
- Prepare patients for procedures by explaining the process, addressing questions, and ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Provide direct nursing care, including wound assessment and dressing changes, medication administration, injections, suture removal, blood draws, specimen collection, and post procedure care.
- Conduct patient triage by returning clinical phone calls, assessing patient concerns, addressing inquiries, and providing appropriate nursing advice and education within scope of practice.
- Educate patients regarding prescribed medications, skincare routines, wound care, treatment expectations, and post procedure instructions.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, treatments, clinical advice, procedures, and other patient interactions in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Coordinate follow up care as required, including communicating with patients, physicians, pharmacies, and other healthcare providers.
- Perform instrument reprocessing, including cleaning, decontamination, packaging, and sterilization of surgical instruments in accordance with Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) standards and clinic protocols.
- Ensure examination and procedure rooms are clean, properly stocked, organized, and prepared for daily clinical activities.
- Monitor and maintain appropriate inventory levels of medical supplies, medications, dressings, and procedural equipment.
- Collaborate effectively with dermatologists, nurses, medical office assistants, and other members of the healthcare team to support efficient patient flow and high quality patient care.
- Assist with other clinical and administrative duties as required to support the daily operation of a busy dermatology practice.
Experience
- Proven nursing experience with a focus on dermatology preferred but not required; solid background in general nursing is highly valued
- Experience working in healthcare settings such as hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, or home care environments
- Familiarity with acute care procedures, medication administration, and medical terminology
- Hands-on experience with phlebotomy, laboratory procedures, pain management techniques, and case management is advantageous
- Knowledge of electronic health record systems such as Epic or Cerner is preferred
- Background in patient care across diverse populations including pediatrics, seniors, dementia care, hospice care or home care settings is highly desirable
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently in fast-paced environments while maintaining compassionate patient interactions
