Position Overview The Indo-Canadian Women’s Association (ICWA), in coordination with the Edmonton Community Adult Learning Association (ECALA), is seeking a Digital Literacy Instructor to deliver hands-on, accessible digital literacy instruction to diverse community members, including newcomers and individuals from underserved communities. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging, practical computer classes, supporting participants with varying levels of digital experience, conducting outreach to recruit participants, and maintaining accurate attendance and program records.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
- Deliver in-person, hands-on digital literacy instruction to adult learners.
- Develop and adapt a digital literacy curriculum appropriate for participants with different levels of computer experience.
- Create practical exercises and activities that encourage participants to build confidence using technology.
- Teach practical digital skills that participants can apply in their daily lives, including:
- Internet navigation and online research
- Email communication and management
- Basic computer and file management
- Using web browsers and search engines effectively
- Online forms and applications
- Online safety, privacy, passwords, and recognizing scams
- Basic video conferencing and online communication toola
Outreach & Promotion
- Conduct outreach to identify and recruit participants for the program.
- Promote classes through community networks, organizations, social media, flyers, and other appropriate channels.
- Build positive relationships with community members and organizations to increase program participation.
Program Administration & Reporting
- Maintain accurate and timely attendance records and participant information.
- Complete required program tracking, reporting, and documentation.
- Monitor participant engagement and progress.
- Maintain organized records of class activities and outcomes.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience teaching, training, facilitating, or supporting adults in a learning environment.
- Strong knowledge of basic computer and digital skills.
- Ability to explain technology clearly to individuals with little or no previous computer experience.
- Comfortable working with diverse communities, including newcomers, immigrants, minorities, seniors, and individuals from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
- Patient, approachable, and supportive teaching style.
- Ability to work independently and develop appropriate lesson plans and curriculum.
- Solid attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
- Comfortable conducting community outreach and promoting programs.
- Experience working in a community-based or nonprofit organization is an asset.
Schedule The instructor will be required to teach three in-person classes per week:
- Basic Class - Monday: 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
- Intermediate Class - Friday: 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
- Advanced Class - Sunday: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Additionally, approximately 30 minutes per week will be allocated for preparation and participant outreach.
Term
September 2026 – June 2027
The successful candidate must be available and committed to the full program term.
Work Location
In-person at the Indo-Canadian Women’s Association (ICWA), Edmonton, Alberta.
