Precision Underground Inc. is hiring an experienced Directional Drill Operator / Underground Utility Locator to join our underground construction team.

You’ll work as part of a two-person directional drilling crew, operating Vermeer drill equipment and DigiTrak locating systems to complete underground utility installations safely and accurately.

This is a hands-on construction position involving drill operation, locating, equipment care, job-site setup, and physical work. It is best suited to someone who understands underground construction, takes utility safety seriously, and is comfortable contributing wherever the crew needs help.

What You’ll Do
- Operate Vermeer horizontal directional drilling equipment.
- Use DigiTrak F5 and F2 locating systems.
- Track the drill head and communicate bore information to the operator.
- Help plan bore paths and identify potential conflicts.
- Complete pilot bores, reaming, and product pullbacks.
- Monitor depth, pitch, direction, and drilling conditions.
- Work safely around marked and exposed underground infrastructure.
- Load, secure, transport, and unload drilling equipment.
- Drive drill trucks and tow equipment trailers when properly licensed.
- Perform pre-use inspections and routine equipment maintenance.
- Set up and maintain secure, organized job sites.




- Complete required paperwork and daily reports.
- Assist with potholing, excavation, cleanup, and general construction duties.
- Work closely with the drill crew, foreperson, and other equipment operators.
- Follow company safety procedures and project requirements.

Required Qualifications
- Valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s Licence
- Previous horizontal directional drilling or drill-head locating experience
- Familiarity with underground utility construction
- Ability to understand bore plans, utility markings, depth, pitch, and direction
- Comfortable performing physical construction work outdoors
- Able to reliably commute to Glenlea for a 6:00 a.m. start
- Dependable, safety-conscious, and able to work effectively with a crew
- Willing to travel or work out of town occasionally when projects require it

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating Vermeer directional drills
- Experience using DigiTrak F5 or F2 locating equipment
- Valid Manitoba Class 3 Driver’s Licence
- Experience towing and backing equipment trailers
- Mechanical aptitude and equipment-maintenance experience
- Experience with excavation, hydrovac, utility installation, or civil construction
- Knowledge of safe excavation practices around existing utilities

This Position Probably Isn’t for You If:
- You’re looking for a position that only involves sitting in equipment.
- You aren’t comfortable performing physical work.
- You don’t want to help with setup, cleanup, or general crew duties.
- You’re unable to start work in Glenlea at 6:00 a.m.
- You’re uncomfortable working outdoors in changing conditions.
- You don’t want occasional travel or out-of-town assignments.
