Position Summary

Canadian Arena Services is seeking an experienced, strategic, and results-driven Director, Arena Operations in the Greater Toronto Area to lead arena operations and facility management services across municipal and private recreation facilities throughout Ontario for the hockey season operating typically from October - April.

Reporting to senior leadership, this role oversees client relationships, staff leadership, facility maintenance, ice quality, preventative maintenance, regulatory compliance, budgeting, and operational performance while ensuring safe, efficient, and consistent service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

- Provide strategic leadership for day-to-day operations across multiple municipal and private arena facilities.
- Develop and implement operational standards, policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure consistent service delivery.
- Oversee ice operations, facility maintenance, equipment reliability, and preventative maintenance programs for major building systems and assets.

Leadership & People Management

- Lead, mentor, and manage Arena Managers, Arena Operators, Rink Attendants, and maintenance staff.
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, workforce planning, scheduling, training, and employee development.
- Foster a positive, accountable, collaborative, and safety-focused workplace culture.

Client & Contract Management

- Serve as the primary operational contact for municipal clients, private facility owners, and community stakeholders.
- Ensure contractual service levels and operational performance standards are achieved through proactive communication and responsive service.
- Attend client meetings, prepare operational reports, and provide recommendations to improve facility performance.

Asset & Facility Management

- Coordinate contractors, consultants, suppliers, and service providers to support facility maintenance and capital priorities.
- Review inspections, maintenance records, regulatory documentation, and lifecycle replacement recommendations.





Financial Management

- Develop and manage operating budgets, labour costs, inventory, maintenance expenses, and forecasting for assigned facilities and contracts.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining service quality, safety, and operational reliability.

Health & Safety

- Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS, TSSA requirements, environmental regulations, and company policies.
- Lead health and safety initiatives, training, emergency preparedness, and incident investigations.

Required Skills & Abilities

- Minimum 7–10 years of progressive experience in arena operations or recreation facility management, including at least 5 years in a leadership or management role.
- Extensive knowledge of arena operations, ice maintenance, refrigeration systems, facility systems, preventative maintenance, and equipment lifecycle management.
- Strong leadership, communication, customer service, relationship management, budgeting, analytical, planning, and project management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop operational policies, procedures, performance standards, and training programs.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Valid Ontario Class G Driver's Licence, Standard First Aid & CPR/AED certification, WHMIS certification, and willingness to travel throughout Ontario and respond to operational emergencies as required.
- ORFA Basic Arena Refrigeration Certification, or willingness to obtain.

Preferred Assets

- ORFA Certified Ice Technician designation, TSSA Refrigeration B Ticket, JHSC certification, or experience managing municipal service contracts.

Pay: $70,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
