About Prominent Homes
Prominent Homes is a family-owned residential homebuilder based in Calgary, Alberta, founded in 1990. What started as a small local builder has grown into a company building 120+ homes a year across single-family, duplex, and townhome communities — with a clear plan to scale past 150+ homes next year. We're led by our second-generation President, Pal Shergill, who has spent 30+ years around every part of this business — job sites, estimating, customer care, sales — before taking the seat.
That history shows up in how decisions get made here: close, hands-on, and accountable, not layered in bureaucracy.
Our Culture — Why People Stay
We believe a great place to work and a great place to build a career are the same thing, and we hold ourselves to that with real numbers, not just words. Our current employee engagement score (eNPS) is 75+ — a level most companies never get close to — and it's a company-wide goal every leader is accountable for, not a metric that lives in an HR report nobody reads.
As we've grown, we've deliberately invested in role clarity and accountability across our leadership team — everyone knows what they own, what success looks like, and where to go with a problem. That clarity is a big part of why people trust their leaders here and stick around. You'll be joining a close-knit Senior Leadership Team where your voice matters from day one, not after you've put in your time.
If you want a role where the scale is real, the growth is real, and the culture is something the leadership team actively protects rather than pays lip service to — this is that kind of place.
The Opportunity
This is a rare seat at a company in the middle of its growth curve, growing fast enough that the right person will have real influence over how it gets built. The Director of Finance is Prominent's senior financial leader: a full member of the Senior Leadership Team who sets financial strategy, owns banking and capital decisions,
and personally leads monthly financial reporting and cash management.
This is intentionally a hands-on leadership role. You'll be setting the strategy and doing the work — not directing a team beneath you from a distance. As Prominent scales, we expect this role to evolve and to build out a team underneath it.
What You'll Own
Strategic Financial Leadership
- Sit on the Senior Leadership Team as a full member, contributing to business decisions beyond finance.
- Manage all banking relationships and serve as the primary point of contact for our banking partners.
- Lead a Monthly Margin Intelligence Review for the executive team — margin performance, community and product profitability, and forecast accuracy.
- Provide decision-ready financial analysis on pricing, land acquisition, new product decisions, and growth planning.
- Build and maintain break-even and cash sensitivity models that keep the leadership team ahead of liquidity risk.
- Own the annual budget and multi-year financial plan.
Financial Reporting & Cash Management
- Deliver accurate monthly financial statements, variance analysis, and community-level performance reporting.
- Own a rolling 12-month cash flow and income statement forecast, built from real operational drivers — starts, cycle times, possession timing, and draw schedules.
- Manage cash, banking, closings, and construction draws to keep the business funded and on schedule.
- Own the integrity of our ERP system, internal controls, tax compliance, and audit relationships.
Team & Administrative Leadership
- Lead and develop the accounting, AP/AR, and payroll team.
- Own payroll and benefits administration — the accounting/compliance side of HR,
not recruiting or employee relations.
- Own contract management across trade partners, lenders, and land/investment agreements.
- Own the company vehicle fleet and facilities administration.
What We're Looking For
- A CPA (or equivalent professional accounting designation).
- 8+ years of progressive finance leadership experience, ideally with exposure to homebuilding, real estate development, or construction.
- Proven experience owning financial reporting, cash flow forecasting, and banking relationships at a senior level.
- Comfort operating as both a strategist and a hands-on executor.
- Strong communication skills — able to translate numbers into decisions for a leadership team and ownership group.
- Experience with ERP systems and a track record of improving financial processes as a company scales.
What Success Looks Like
- The leadership team has complete confidence in the numbers — and in the judgment behind your recommendations.
- Cash risks and margin pressures are flagged before they become problems.
- Financial reporting is delivered on time, every month, without being chased.
- Profitability is understood and improving at the community level.
- Prominent's financial systems and processes can support our growth targets.
Why Prominent Homes This is a chance to build something, not just run it. You'll have a direct line to ownership, a seat at the strategy table from day one, and the opportunity to shape how Prominent's finance function is structured as we grow. Compensation is competitive and based on experience.
