Drama Coach/Acting Instructor - Stagecoach Calgary West

We are seeking a qualified Drama Coach/Acting Instructor for

Sundays - Calgary NW

We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Drama/Acting Teacher with a robust background in teaching, performance, and drama. Ideal candidates should have a strong foundation in various performance styles, and teaching experience is essential. Passion, positivity, commitment, creativity, and excellent classroom management skills are vital, especially when working with groups of children ages 6-14 years. A vulnerable sector police check will be required for all hired teachers.

Responsibilities:

Class Preparation and Instruction - Develop and teach engaging drama classes, ensuring each session begins with a physical warm-up. Incorporate breathing and voice exercises to enhance breath control, pitch, and tone of voice. Focus on speech elements such as pronunciation, volume, tone, range, and dialect,



addressing speech problems sympathetically and infrequently.

Practice sight reading and encourage its use periodically.

Performance Skills Development - Facilitate improvisation exercises to encourage acting skills, making it a significant part of the class. Include mime exercises, ensuring they are both important and enjoyable for the students. Teach stagecraft in an imaginative and fun manner. Prepare students for auditions with specific pieces at least once a year. Foster an appreciation for poetry and the art of speaking verse.

Character and Text Work - Conduct exercises in characterization, focusing on observation and awareness. Provide practice in play reading and performing with various texts.

Games and Activities - Incorporate a variety of games into each class to promote teamwork, imaginative thought, and discipline.

Collaboration and Performances - Work alongside dance and vocal teachers to put together musical performances and productions. Introduce students to new skills within the performing arts.

Qualifications:

Strong training and background in drama and acting. Knowledge of a wide range of performance styles.

We provide an encouraging, fun and supportive working environment, with strong core values, opportunity to grow, exciting teaching workshops and a good hourly wage. This is predominantly a weekend position with some evening work required during the school year.

Applicants will need to undergo a Police Vulnerable Sector Check and commit to our Child Protection policy.

Job Type: Part time

Pay: $30.00-$35.00 per hour
