We are Systematix and we are currently looking for a hands-on Electrical Engineering Technologist to support the development, prototyping, and qualification of sophisticated electrical hardware for one of our key clients.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Our client is a global leader in science and technology, developing advanced analytical instrumentation used by scientists and researchers around the world. As part of its ongoing product development initiatives, the organization is seeking an Electrical Engineering Technologist to join a multidisciplinary Hardware Product Development team supporting the development and qualification of new electrical hardware.
The successful candidate will work closely with Electrical Designers and other engineering professionals in a highly hands-on rapid-prototyping environment. The role will focus on building and operating electrical test fixtures, cable harnesses, and supporting hardware while also assisting with electronic component procurement, prototype PCBA development, and laboratory operations.
ABOUT THE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build electrical test fixtures, load boxes, cable harnesses, and related equipment required for the qualification and testing of current electrical hardware.
- Develop, assemble, and operate engineering-grade test fixtures under the direction of Electrical Designers.
- Perform hands-on electronic assembly activities, including SMD and through-hole soldering.
- Support the procurement, organization, and kitting of electronic components being supplied to rapid-prototype PCBA vendors.
- Work closely with Electrical Designers and component procurement specialists to evaluate the suitability, availability, and equivalency of electronic components used in hardware development.
- Assist with prototype PCBA development and troubleshooting activities.
- Use laboratory test and measurement equipment including bench multimeters, oscilloscopes, function generators, and related electrical development tools.
- Support electrical hardware testing, troubleshooting,
verification, and qualification activities.
- Maintain frequently used laboratory components, consumables, tools, and equipment inventory.
- Support laboratory equipment registration, maintenance, and calibration activities.
- Document test fixture configurations, build information, component details, and other technical information as required.
- Collaborate with engineering team members to support rapid prototyping, testing, and continuous improvement activities.
ABOUT THE REQUIREMENTS
- Electrical Engineering Technologist diploma or higher, or equivalent education and practical experience.
- Hands-on experience working within a research, engineering development, or rapid-prototyping environment.
- Strong practical electrical and electronics skills.
- Demonstrated experience building and operating custom electronic test fixtures.
- Hands-on experience building cable harnesses and performing electrical assembly work.
- Demonstrated SMD and through-hole soldering experience.
- Experience using standard electrical laboratory and development equipment, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, and function generators.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, technical drawings, component specifications, and related engineering documentation.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with Electrical Designers, engineers, procurement specialists, and other technical team members.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Eligibility for or membership with a recognized organization of certified engineering technologists, such as OACETT.
- Experience using electrical and/or mechanical CAD software.
- Experience supporting prototype PCB or PCBA development.
- Experience with electronic component selection, substitution, equivalency analysis, or procurement.
- Experience supporting the development of scientific, laboratory, medical, or other sophisticated electronic instrumentation.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a 100% onsite contract opportunity supporting the development and qualification of advanced scientific instrumentation as part of a multidisciplinary Hardware Product Development team.
The expected pay range for this position is CAD $40–45 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications, and overall fit for the role.
