The Lighthouse Learning and Development Centre is looking for a Junior/Intermediate Teacher. We are a small, private school dedicated to providing students, diagnosed with Autism, an academically rich and fulfilling education. Our community is made up of creative students who enjoy learning. We are looking for an innovative teacher who will design integrative lessons that challenge and engage our student population.
Candidates must possess the following qualifications/experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Bachelor of Education (Junior/Intermediate Qualifications)
- Member of the Ontario College of Teachers (preferred)
- Experience working with students with special needs (preferably Autism experience)
- Candidates must be able to effectively prepare and execute lessons, mark assessments and help students as a group and on a one-on-one basis
- Innovative, creative, resourceful
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Developing lesson plans in cooperation with the Director of Education according to the Ministry of Education curriculum guidelines regarding content, books, etc.
- Take attendance during class, administer and mark assessments (for, as, of learning), completing report cards and progress reports that follow Ministry and School guidelines.
- Participate in all classroom teaching duties (foster a positive learning environment, continually check in on students’ academic and individual progress, participate in parent-teacher conferences, etc).
- Follow the behaviour management guidelines outlined by the behaviour management team and/or the Registered Behaviour Analyst
- Design innovative and hands-on learning opportunities within and outside the classroom
- Scaffold information (chunking, creating task lists, visual schedules, etc)
- Performing duties that may be required by the Director of Education to accommodate the needs of individual students and the demands of the academic activities and/or independent life skills.
- Collaborate with behaviour technicians in the classroom to support student learning.
Additional Information
As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Screening Report.
