Bernhardt Contracting Ltd. is a construction consultant and testing agent. Our business is split into three main categories:

Part 9 small residential one-stop shop where our focus is helping builders navigate building codes, building science, and construction technologies. We provide everything that doesn’t require engineering in Part 9 construction, including energy modelling, HVAC design, heat load calculation, and lateral load design.

Part 3 buildings enclosure testing, such as air leakage testing and window water penetration testing, and other enclosure tests.

Special projects: special projects cover a wide range of activities including various research, code and policy development, as well as teaching and education development.

We are seeking team members to fill the role of Energy Advisor and Testing Tech, as well as someone who can assist with research and other special projects. This position could be part-time and split with two people, or a full-time position. The main scope of work is as follows:

Energy Advisor/Testing Tech.

A unique opportunity for a mix of site and office (your home office, remote position). This position involves the core scope of an Energy Advisor and would include Part 9 new construction site assessments at mid-construction and final,



as well as Part 3 building testing of various types. It would also include some energy modelling as well as consultations with client builders and report creation.

A self-directed person who can work independently and can accommodate a changing and flexible schedule is required. You must be able to communicate at a high level with trades and have a good understanding of building science and the skill set of an Energy Advisor. The ideal candidate will already be a licenced Energy Advisor or be close to receiving that certificate.

We are willing to train well-qualified people.

Special Projects.

This is a work from home position. It covers a wide range of tasks related to research projects, technical guidance documents, code, and policy development. Currently, the team is working on producing a massive dataset for the BC Energy Step Code Metrics update report.

Upcoming projects will include an HRV guide as well as code-related research projects for various local governments. The team member in charge of these projects may, depending on the scope of the project, be tasked with coordinating other team members to complete the tasks. It often involves meeting with clients and developing scope documents.

Key Skills





· Construction plan reading

· General computer skills o Ideal candidates will have knowledge of:

§ Bluebeam

§ Hot2000

§ PHPP

§ CSA F280 calculations o All candidates must be proficient in:

§ MS office

· Familiarity and comfort on construction sites and the ability to communicate effectively with trades

· Familiarity with Canadian energy and building codes

· The ability to create and independently produce a site review report

· Physical fitness o We test on construction sites. Staff need to be able to climb ladders and lift some moderately heavy items o Testing equipment weighs approximately 50 lbs and will need to be carried up and down stairs and lifted from the floor and overhead, or into and out of a vehicle o At times it may be necessary to sit for long periods of time, crouch or crawl o Heights such as rooftops are also a common working condition

Pay: $35.00-$50.00 per hour
