Responsibilities
Courses
- CART 1023 – Construction Site Practices : In this course, students apply industry health and safety practices in the lab. The safe use of cutting and welding tools, ladders and scaffolds are a principal focus. Hoisting and rigging is introduced. Students learn to readily recognize fall hazards and identify the correct control measures to protect themselves using personal fall prevention systems.
- CART 1012 – Applied Carpentry Fundamentals : In this course, students apply and practice program learning in the carpentry shop. They learn how to safely use hand tools, portable power tools, and stationary power tools and select and employ the appropriate materials and methods. Emphasis is placed on following the Ontario Building Code through site layout, framing and forming, and a demolition project.
- Develop and deliver appropriate curriculum to meet course objectives.
- Incorporate a variety of teaching and learning strategies to meet student needs.
- Evaluate student learning progress and academic achievement.
- Participate in program and college activities as required.
- Participate in program revision and renewal activities as required.
- Create and maintain a positive learning environment.
Qualifications
- Minimum five years of experience within the construction industry.
- A Certificate of Qualifications (C of Q) for Carpentry is an asset.
- Teaching experience at the postsecondary or adult learning environment is an asset.
- Computer literacy in MS Office Suite.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and conflict resolution skills.
- Commitment to life‑long learning.
- Proven ability to work in a team environment and to foster the same in students.
- Experience in curriculum development, a variety of delivery strategies, adult learning methodologies, academic advising, and student success strategies is an asset.
- Teaching and Training Adults certification is an asset.
- The ability to teach in more than one subject or program area is an asset.
- Acceptable proof of education (degrees, credentials) from recognized post‑secondary institutions and Provincial Apprenticeship Board, or confirmation of international equivalencies will be required as part of the selection process.
