About Salient
Salient Design & Exhibits is a Toronto-based trade show booth company handling design, fabrication, installation, storage, and logistics under one roof. We build custom and modular exhibits for clients across the pharmaceutical, medical device, and retail real estate sectors. Everything is built, stored, and shipped from our own shop, from raw panels to a finished booth ready for the show floor.
We're a small, tight-knit team where your work has direct, visible impact, and where the right person has real room to grow.
The Role
We're looking for an entry-level carpenter who knows how to laminate and wants to build a real trade under people who've mastered it. You'll work in our shop alongside seasoned fabricators, including a lead with over 40 years in the industry, building the booths and displays our clients take to shows across the country. Alongside the carpentry, you'll help keep our warehouse running: receiving, organizing, and prepping exhibits for storage and shipment.
This is a hands-on role with genuine mentorship and a clear path to grow your skills. We're hiring for the long run.
What You'll Do
- Build custom and modular trade show booth components from wood and sheet goods
- Apply plastic laminate (Formica / HPL) to panels and surfaces: cutting, gluing, trimming, and finishing
- Cut, assemble, and finish panels, crates, and structures to spec
- Operate shop tools and equipment safely (table saw, router, and more)
- Help run the warehouse: receiving shipments, organizing inventory, and prepping exhibits for storage
- Pick, pack, crate, and load finished pieces for shipping and on-site install
- Help keep the shop and warehouse organized, clean, and safe
What We're Looking For (Must-Haves)
- Knows how to laminate: applying plastic laminate (HPL) to panels and surfaces. This is essential.
- Basic carpentry skills and comfort with hand and power tools
- Reliable, punctual, and safety-minded
- Able to lift, move inventory, and stay on your feet through a full shift
- Eager to learn the trade from experienced fabricators
- Able to work on-site at our Toronto shop
Nice to Have
- Experience in cabinetmaking, millwork, scenic, or exhibit/display fabrication
- Warehouse experience: shipping, receiving, or inventory
- Forklift certification, or willingness to get certified
- A carpentry or woodworking certificate or apprenticeship (an asset, not required)
Why Join Us
- Learn directly from a team with decades of hands-on experience, including a lead fabricator with 40+ years in the trade
- Real training and a path to grow from entry-level into a skilled fabricator
- Variety: build booths for recognizable brands and see them through from shop to show floor, with no two projects the same
- A small, close-knit shop where your work ships and your growth gets noticed
To apply: Submit your resume and a short note on your carpentry and laminating experience. Photos of past work are welcome. Pay: $20.00 per hour
Advantages
- Company events
- On-site parking
