Position Summary: Roe Environmental Inc. is seeking experienced environmental technicians, local to Squamish BC, to provide environmental monitoring and to aid in delivery of a Marine Mammal Monitoring Program for construction of a marine terminal at the Woodfibre LNG project near Squamish BC. Field duties may include in-situ and analytical water quality sampling, bird and amphibian surveys, and monitoring of sensitive construction works.

Marine Mammal

Observers will be responsible for conducting visual observations for marine mammals, recording and communicating observations, and deploying and operating hydrophone monitoring equipment. Long hours on the water may be required during certain construction periods. Camp facilities will be available for non-local candidates, daily transportation to/from project site from Squamish will be available for local candidates.

Position Term: Temporary contract beginning August 2026 with opportunity for continued full time employment.

Position Location: The position will primarily involve monitoring on the Woodfibre LNG project in Squamish, BC. Local candidates can anticipate paid ferry travel to and from site.

Preferred Capabilities

- Marine Mammal Observer or marine monitoring experience.
- Familiarity with whale and pinniped species identification.
- SVOP, PCOC or work on boats is an asset.
- Hydrophone experience is an asset.




- Water quality monitoring (in-situ and analytical sampling) experience is an asset.
- Field work experience in aquatic biology (e.g., fish and amphibian surveys/salvages and habitat assessment), terrestrial wildlife and birds (e.g., breeding bird nest surveys, raptor surveys, wildlife and species at risk surveys) and vegetation assessment.
- Solid interpersonal skills for client and contractor communications.
- Comfortable working on boats and in outdoor settings (year-round).

Requirements: Position likely to involve a 14 day on – 7 day off shift with potential for night-shifts. Normal working days are likely to be up to 10-12 hours.

Preference Given to Candidates With:

- Priority placement will be given to (1) Squamish Nation members and (2) Indigenous candidates with demonstrated experience, competency, and a good safety track record.
- Candidates local to Squamish, BC.
- Suitable academic background and/or experience with applied science biology work or other related field work.
- Level 1 First Aid.

Compensation: $28/hour - $34/hour based on experience and training

Benefits:

- Cell phone allowance
- 30% increase anticipated on hourly rate for all night shift work
- Overtime per provincial standards (1.5x over 8hrs, 2x over 12hrs)
