Inner Harbour Marine Services is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to join our waterfront construction team serving Kingston, the Thousand Islands and Eastern Ontario.
This is a hands-on role for an operator who takes pride in precision excavation and safe equipment operation. The successful candidate will operate excavators and other heavy equipment on a wide variety of shoreline and waterfront construction projects including armour stone installation, shoreline stabilization, riprap/gabion placement, pile installation and site preparation.
Projects are completed from both land and floating barges, so applicants should be comfortable working around water. Previous marine experience is not required.
Duties:
· Operate excavators safely and efficiently in a variety of terrain and conditions.
· Perform precision placement of:
o Armour stone o Riprap/gabion o Large landscape materials o Structural backfill
· Operate excavators from both land and floating barges.
· Assist with pile installation using vibratory and drilling attachments.
· Load, unload and secure heavy equipment and construction materials.
· Perform daily equipment inspections and routine maintenance.
· Read site plans and work with project supervisors to complete projects accurately.
· Maintain safe work practices and comply with OHSA requirements.
· Assist other construction crew members as required.
Working Conditions:
1. The worksites are typically outdoors on or near water. Equipment operation is performed both from floating barge vessels as well as from land.
2. Work weeks are generally 5 days, Monday to Friday. Work starts and on-site arrival times are specified as required by job but generally are 7:30-4:30.

Regulatory/seasonal work windows may require weekend and extended weekday work hours.
4. Safety and personal protective equipment i.e., safety shoes/boots, hardhat, safety glasses, hearing protection and life jacket/PFD are mandatory.
5. Occasional travel and training may be required.
Preferred Experience: Experience with any of the following would be considered an asset:
- Vibratory pile driving equipment
- Excavator-mounted drilling equipment
- Hydraulic attachments
- Skid steers
- Forklifts
- Welding and fabrication
- Dock or shoreline construction
- Truck and trailer transport of heavy equipment
Qualifications
1. Minimum 5 years of proven excavator experience.
2. Possess a valid Class G Ontario Drivers licence with a clean driving record.
3. Proficient spoken and written English. Able to communicate clearly and concisely.
4. Is capable of precision work around existing structures.
5. Is dependable and takes pride in producing quality work.
6. Works well independently and as part of a crew.
7. Is willing to learn specialized marine construction techniques.
Strong Assets: · AR or AZ licence
· Heavy equipment operator training
· First Aid / CPR
· Welding certification
