Overview The Family Intervention Support Worker provides practical, emotional, and individualized support to children, youth, and families experiencing challenges that may affect family functioning, safety, stability, and well-being. The role focuses on building positive relationships, strengthening family capacity, promoting healthy communication, and helping families develop practical strategies to address concerns and achieve their goals.

The Family Intervention Support

Worker works collaboratively with children, youth, families, Children Services, community agencies, and other service providers to ensure coordinated and effective support.

Duties

- Promote culturally respectful, trauma-informed, strengths-based, and inclusive approaches when working with families.
- Build respectful, trusting, and professional relationships with children, youth, families, and all professional partners.
- Provide one-to-one and family-based support based on identified needs, strengths, and goals.
- Assist families in developing practical strategies to improve communication, relationships, parenting skills, and family functioning.
- Support parents and caregivers in developing positive and effective parenting techniques.
- Help families establish routines, boundaries, structure, and healthy expectations within the home.
- Provide crisis intervention, emotional support, and problem-solving assistance when appropriate.
- Monitor family dynamics and identify concerns related to safety, conflict, behavior, or well-being.
- Support children and youth in developing coping skills, emotional regulation, social skills, and positive decision-making.
- Assist families in accessing community resources, housing support, education, healthcare, financial assistance, and other services.
- Advocate for children, youth, and families while promoting their dignity, independence, and self-determination.




- Participate in family meetings, case conferences, and multidisciplinary planning.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential case notes and documentation in collaboration with Children Services to create and maintain individualized Service Plans, goals and objectives.
- Follow organizational policies, professional standards, privacy requirements, and applicable legislation.
- Recognize and report safety concerns, abuse, neglect, or other situations requiring intervention in accordance with applicable policies and legislation.
- Work collaboratively with Children Services and community partners.
- Transport or accompany clients to appointments, programs, school meetings, or community resources when required by the position.
- Participate in ongoing training, supervision, team meetings, and professional development.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Intervention Record Check.
- Diploma or degree in Social Work, Human Services, Child & Youth Care, Community Services, or a related field is preferred. Other experience may be considered.
- Preference will be given to those with Indigenous background/extensive experience.
- Experience working with children, youth, and families in a social-service, community, educational, or residential setting.
- Knowledge of family dynamics, child development, trauma-informed practice, and crisis intervention.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, conflict-resolution, and problem-solving skills.




- Ability to establish professional boundaries while maintaining compassionate and supportive relationships.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Understanding of confidentiality, privacy, and professional ethics
- Ability to work in family homes, community settings, schools, offices, and other locations where support is provided
- Current First Aid/CPR certification is required
- Valid Driver’s License, clear Driver’s Abstract, reliable vehicle and 2-million-dollar liability insurance coverage required
- Required to work flexible hours, travel regularly and exposure to stressful or emotionally challenging situations and requires the ability to remain calm, professional, and supportive during periods of conflict or crisis.
