About Kikosewin FRN The Kikosewin Family Resource Network (FRN) is an Indigenous-led, community-based prevention and early intervention network operated by Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society. The Home Visitation spoke — Family Connections — provides intensive, relationship-based in-home support to families with children from prenatal to age 6 across Edmonton.

About the Role The Family Support Specialist provides voluntary, strengths-based, in-home support to families during the most critical developmental window in a child's life. This work is based on relationship building. The worker becomes a consistent, trusted presence who helps caregivers build confidence, deepen their understanding of child development, and access the supports they need.

This is intensive home visiting work. You will carry a caseload of 15–20 families, visit them in their homes and in community settings across Edmonton, and work alongside them as they reach their goals. The families who benefit most from this service are often those who have had the least access to trustworthy support. Building that trust and holding it consistently is the heart of this role.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide regular, voluntary in-home visits to families with children prenatal to age 6




- Build and maintain trusting, professional relationships with families over the course of service
- Complete the Healthy Families Screening Tool and develop collaborative service plans with families
- Support caregivers to understand child development and strengthen responsive parenting
- Identify and address developmental concerns, refering to ICD and other supports when needed
- Connect families to internal FRN services and external community resources
- Maintain accurate case notes, visit logs, and service plans
- Participate in regular individual supervision and reflective practice
- Complete daily visit schedule and safety check-in protocols every day without exception
- Support planned transitions and closures with families
- Fulfill mandatory reporting obligations in accordance with legislation

Qualifications

Education:

- Diploma or degree in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Early Childhood Education, or a related field is required

Experience:

- Experience with developmental screening tools, particularly ASQ-3 and ASQ:SE-2, is an asset
- Experience providing direct support to families with young children, preferably in a home visiting or outreach context
- Experience working with Indigenous families using culturally grounded, trauma-informed, strengths-based approaches
- Experience navigating complex family circumstances including poverty, trauma, mental health challenges,



and systems involvement

Knowledge and Skills:

- Strong knowledge of child development from prenatal to age 6
- Understanding of attachment theory, responsive parenting, and caregiver-child relationship development
- Knowledge of the impacts of intergenerational trauma and colonization on Indigenous families
- Strong relational skills able to build trust in difficult circumstances and maintain professional boundaries
- Ability to work independently in home environments with sound professional judgment
- Understanding of mandatory reporting legislation and child protection processes
- Strong documentation skills

Other Requirements:

- Criminal record check and vulnerable sector check required
- Valid driver's licence and reliable vehicle required Edmonton-wide travel
- First Aid/CPR required or willingness to obtain
- Infant mental health foundations, suicide intervention, and trauma-informed practice training preferred

Salary

- Salary plus mileage for travel
- Paid sick and wellness days after 3 months’ probation (pro-rated)
- Extended Health Benefit (50/50 cost sharing) after 6 months’ employment.
- Working approximately 34.5 hours per week

Pay: $49,100.00-$51,555.00 per year
