Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Operations & Monthly Closing
- Oversee full-cycle accounting operations, ensuring accurate records.
- Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations, manage card users, follow up on missing receipts, and track limits to maintain continuous cash flow.
- Track and record monthly amortization, prepaid expenses, accounting fee accruals, and other accrued liabilities.
- Record and control intercompany transactions across corporate entities (invoices, bills, and expenses).
2. Strategic Financial Leadership & Reporting
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial closes, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements.
- Prepare comprehensive management packages, variance analyses, and operational performance metrics for executive leadership.
- Drive budgeting, financial forecasting, and cash flow modelling to support strategic business decisions.
3. Departmental Oversight & Internal Controls
- Lead, mentor, and build capacity within the accounting and bookkeeping team.
- Establish, maintain, and enforce robust internal financial controls and standard operating procedures.
- Lead weekly departmental meetings to resolve operational blockers and streamline administrative workflows.

Project & Cost Accounting
- Partner with Project Managers to review job costing, Work-in-Progress (WIP) tracking, progress billings, and profitability trends.
- Oversee holdback management, statutory declarations, and project-level cash flow execution.
5. Payroll, HR & Statutory Compliance
- Oversee full-cycle payroll processing via Payworks, pension/RRSP/DPSP programs, and employee benefits administration.
- Ensure organizational compliance with provincial and federal tax regulations, including GST, PST, Manitoba HE Levy, WCB, and annual T4 filings.
6. Tax, Audit & Year-End Governance
- Act as the primary liaison with external accountants for year-end preparation, financial reviews, and audit inquiries.
- Manage intercompany transactions, allocations, and journal entry adjustments across corporate entities.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong Accounting and Finance skills, including knowledge of GAAP/IFRS and corporate finance principles.
- Candidates should possess experience in preparing and reviewing Financial Statements and Financial Reporting for management and external stakeholders.
- Candidates should possess solid Analytical Skills for budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and performance measurement.
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; a professional designation (CPA or equivalent) is preferred.
- Proficiency with accounting software and robust Excel skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage deadlines, prioritize tasks, and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in construction or project-based industries is an asset.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and levels of the organization.
