Salary: $35.00–$40.00 per hour

Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Schedule: 35 hours per week

About the Opportunity

Pauquachin First Nation (PFN) is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and service-focused General Accountant to join our Finance Department.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the General Accountant will play an key role in supporting the financial operations of Pauquachin First Nation. This position is responsible for a diverse range of accounting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, financial reporting, and compliance activities.

What You'll Do

Accounting & Financial Operations

- Process accounts payable transactions, including invoices, purchase orders, contracts, expense claims, and cheque requisitions.
- Review invoices for appropriate approvals, supporting documentation, accuracy, and compliance.
- Prepare EFTs, online banking payments, and cheques for authorized signatures.
- Maintain accurate vendor records and resolve invoice discrepancies.
- Prepare and issue customer invoices and statements.
- Record and monitor accounts receivable transactions and follow up on overdue accounts.
- Support collections for utilities, rents, taxes, and other receivables.
- Prepare journal entries and maintain supporting documentation.
- Reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable subledgers to the General Ledger.
- Complete monthly reconciliations for bank accounts, credit cards, payroll liabilities, GST, PST, WCB, source deductions, pension plans, and employee benefits.
- Assist with monthly financial statements, cash flow projections, management reports, and budget variance analysis.
- Prepare accounts payable aging and overdue payable reports.
- Maintain asset records for insurance and reporting purposes.
- Support month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Assist with annual audit preparation and respond to auditor requests.

Payroll

- Process accurate bi-weekly payroll within established deadlines.
- Maintain payroll records and supporting documentation.
- Prepare and reconcile ROEs, T4s, T4 Summaries, T5s, source deduction remittances, pension reports, and benefit reports.




- Maintain employee TD1 information.
- Administer pension and benefit enrolments, changes, and cancellations.
- Reconcile monthly pension and benefit statements.

Reporting & Compliance

- Prepare reconciliations, working papers, and audit schedules.
- Monitor financial reporting and remittance deadlines.
- Ensure financial activities comply with GAAP, PFN policies, funding agreements, and applicable legislation.
- Provide financial information and reporting support for projects and programs.
- Assist with identifying and resolving financial discrepancies.

Community & Team Support

- Provide professional and responsive service to employees, community members, suppliers, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Build positive and respectful working relationships across the organization.
- Participate in Finance Department meetings, training, and professional development.
- Contribute to process improvements and financial system enhancements.
- Support a respectful, collaborative, and service-oriented workplace.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the CFO.

What We're Looking For

Education

- Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution.
- Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Experience

- Minimum five (5) years of recent accounting experience.
- Strong experience in:
- Accounts payable
- Accounts receivable
- Payroll administration
- Journal entries and reconciliations
- Financial reporting
- Experience using computerized accounting systems; Adagio experience is strongly preferred.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and financial reporting skills.
- Experience with collections and overdue receivables.
- Experience working in a First Nations environment is considered an asset.

Knowledge & Skills

- Working knowledge of payroll, taxation, financial, and employment legislation.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

Additional Requirements

- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and access to reliable transportation may be considered an asset.

Working Environment This is primarily an office-based position requiring extended periods of computer use, concentration, and attention to detail. The position may involve occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs., bending, reaching, filing, and occasional local or out-of-town travel for meetings, training, or banking requirements.
