Part-Time | Weekend and Occasional Weekday On-Call Home Instead - Courtenay, BC Be the Support Behind Exceptional Care Home Instead is seeking a calm, dependable, and resourceful On-Call Coordinator to support our clients and Care Professionals outside regular office hours. As the primary point of contact when the office is closed, you will respond to calls, coordinate unexpected shift coverage, address client concerns, and provide guidance to Care Professionals. You will work independently and use sound judgment, with our local office team available for support and escalation when needed. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Care Professional who is ready to take on greater responsibility, strengthen their coordination and leadership skills, and help ensure clients continue receiving reliable, high-quality care. We also welcome external applicants with relevant experience who are interested in joining our care team and completing the necessary training On-Call Schedule and Compensation Regular weekend: $300 Four-day long weekend: $400 Additional compensation applies when covering a client shift Occasional weekday on-call coverage may also be available. During an assigned on-call period, you must remain in town, keep the on-call phone with you, and be available to respond throughout the scheduled period. You must also be prepared to attend a client’s home if a shift cannot otherwise be covered. Duties and Responsibilities Respond promptly and professionally to all calls and messages received on the on-call phone Manage sick calls, late arrivals, missed visits, and urgent scheduling changes Contact appropriately qualified Care Professionals to arrange shift coverage Communicate schedule changes to clients, families, and Care Professionals Address client concerns and provide after-hours guidance and reassurance Recognize urgent situations and elevate them to the local office team, clinical support,
or emergency services as appropriate Document calls, decisions, schedule changes, and follow-up needs accurately Step into client shifts when suitable coverage cannot be secured Complete a clear handoff to the office team at the end of each on-call period What We’re Looking For Previous experience in home care, caregiving, healthcare, scheduling, client services, or a related role Hands-on caregiving experience and the ability to safely cover client visits A calm, organized, and solutions-focused approach Strong judgment and the ability to make timely decisions independently Confidence communicating with clients, families, and Care Professionals Dependability and full commitment to assigned on-call periods Ability to manage competing priorities and unexpected situations Solid written communication and accurate documentation skills Comfortable using mobile phones, email, and electronic scheduling systems Respect for confidentiality and professional boundaries Requirements Upon Hiring Successful Candidates Must Provide
Valid CPR and First Aid certification A completed TB skin test with acceptable results A clear criminal record check Fluency in spoken and written English A valid driver’s licence A reliable vehicle and current automobile insurance Reliable phone and internet connectivity while on call Why Join Home Instead?
