We are hiring a Senior Data Engineer / Talend Integration Analyst to support the Government of Alberta’s modernization initiatives, with a primary focus on the Digital Regulatory Assurance System (DRAS) program. This is a hands-on technical role requiring strong expertise in Talend Studio, Talend Management Console (TMC), Talend Administration Center (TAC), SQL, ETL/ELT development, integration platform operations, and enterprise production support.
The successful candidate will design, develop, deploy, monitor, and support enterprise integration solutions that move, transform, and consolidate data across ministry systems, cloud services, databases, APIs, and analytics environments. Strong experience with SDLC, Git, CI/CD, production support, data governance, and AI-assisted development is highly valuable.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and support enterprise data integration solutions using Talend Studio, Talend Data Integration, and Talend Data Fabric.
- Develop ETL/ELT jobs, data transformations, orchestration workflows, error-handling processes, and reusable integration components supporting critical business processes.
- Translate business and data requirements into robust technical designs incorporating data mapping, transformation, validation, reconciliation, and integration logic.
- Build parameterized, reusable, and context-aware Talend jobs that can be promoted effectively across development, test, and production environments.
- Design and implement scalable integration patterns for both batch and near-real-time data movement.
- Design, develop, and unit-test Talend jobs, routes, and reusable components for extracting, transforming, and loading data between source systems, databases, files, APIs, and cloud storage.
- Administer and support Talend Management Console (TMC) / Talend Administration Center (TAC), including job deployment, scheduling, environment management, monitoring, execution tracking, release promotion, and operational support.
- Install, configure, support, and troubleshoot Talend Remote Engines, Job Servers, and runtime infrastructure.
- Perform environment maintenance, log analysis, performance tuning, connectivity troubleshooting, security configuration, and platform reliability activities.
- Schedule, orchestrate, deploy, and monitor Talend jobs while proactively tracking execution, throughput, performance, and failures.
- Provide day-to-day production support, including incident triage, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, deployment validation, and resolution of integration and data-load failures within established service levels.
- Develop performance-tuned and scalable integration solutions for enterprise environments.
- Apply strong SQL skills to work with relational databases such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and PostgreSQL.
- Design and expose secure data services and APIs using Azure API Management for downstream systems.
- Implement data governance practices, including metadata management, data classification, lineage tracking, and data quality controls.
- Ensure compliance with applicable privacy and regulatory standards through role-based access controls, encryption, data masking, and appropriate security practices.
- Work within a mature Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) using Git-based source control, code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, testing, release management, documentation, and change management.
- Monitor and troubleshoot data pipelines and integrations to ensure reliability, scalability, availability, and performance.
- Collaborate with data engineers, platform administrators, ministry stakeholders, and vendor support partners.
- Utilize AI and automation tools to streamline data engineering workflows, including development, testing, monitoring, troubleshooting, and documentation.
- Leverage AI-assisted tools for code generation, optimization, code review, and development productivity.
- Perform other related duties as required.

- Hands-on experience performing business requirements analysis related to data manipulation, transformation, cleansing, and data wrangling.
- Solid technical knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, including database design, optimization, and administration in enterprise environments.
- Experience building scalable ETL pipelines, enforcing data quality, and implementing cloud integration using Talend technologies.
- Experience building secure and scalable RESTful APIs for data exchange, including authentication, error handling, and real-time automation.
- Experience with message queueing technologies such as ActiveMQ and Azure Service Bus for scalable asynchronous communication across distributed systems.
- Experience with ServiceNow and Azure-based Data Management Platform integrations.
- Experience supporting integration solutions within large, complex, enterprise environments.
- Experience working with Government of Alberta data platforms or cloud environments.
Project / Program Context The Government of Alberta is undertaking major modernization initiatives that are transforming how ministry users collect, manage, analyze, and utilize data as legacy systems transition to modern Data Management and Geospatial Platforms. The Digital Regulatory Assurance System (DRAS) is a Government of Alberta regulatory transformation initiative led by Environment and Protected Areas (EPA). DRAS is designed to modernize, digitize, and streamline environmental and natural resource regulatory processes across the full regulatory lifecycle, from application and authorization through monitoring, compliance, remediation, and closure.
As DRAS continues to evolve, the volume, variety, and complexity of data are increasing. This creates an ongoing need for strong data integration capabilities to ensure seamless movement, transformation, consolidation, and availability of trusted information across legacy and modern platforms.
The Talend Integration Analyst will design, build, operate, and support data integration solutions on the Government of Alberta’s Talend Integration Platform. The role will support integration across ministry systems, cloud services, analytics environments, databases, APIs, and operational systems.
This position will primarily support the DRAS program, with the potential to contribute to additional enterprise data initiatives.
