Lora Bay Golf Club is seeking a strong, energetic, reliable, and dedicated individual to join our Golf Course Maintenance team in Thornbury!
The Golf Course Maintenance team plays a key role in ensuring the course is maintained to the highest standards for our members and guests.
This position is responsible for assisting with daily course maintenance, including mowing, trimming, bunker maintenance, and general turf care while supporting the overall presentation and playability of the golf course.
Full-time and part-time seasonal positions available to start as soon as possible through the end of October.
Key Responsibilities:
- Golf course setup for daily play
- General mowing with specialized handheld equipment
- Maintenance of all bunkers; raking, edging, minor construction and maintenance of other hazards such as water features
- Repairing wear and tear caused by golfers and animals
- Attending to drainage problems
- Removing early morning dew and debris from all playing surfaces
- Repairing divots and edging irrigation heads
- Preparing ground for and establishing turf
- Assist with any projects such as, sodding, drainage and tree work
- Assist with any necessary cultural practices
- Maintaining golf course furniture
- Communicating effectively and keeping management informed
- Understanding roles and responsibilities
- Opportunities to learn to operate additional equipment during the summer months
- Use of hand tools, including lawn mowers, rakes, and shovels
Qualifications:
- No educational requirements; however, a diploma or degree from a recognized turf grass management program is beneficial
- Previous golf course or landscaping experience is an asset but not essential
- Knowledge of maintenance equipment is an asset but not essential
- High regard for health and safety for yourself and others
Work Arrangement:
- Valid driver’s license, minimum of a G1 level
- Detail-oriented
- Available to work early morning hours, weekends and holidays
- Able to work in a team environment
- Ability to work in changing weather conditions
- Exposure to noisy equipment
- Exposure to temperature fluctuations
- Exposure to dust and outdoor atmospheric elements
- Working with and near heavy equipment
- Lifting (up to 100 pounds)
- Twisting, bending, walking and movement throughout the golf course and surrounding areas, carrying heavy items to different locations
- Frequent exposure to dust and outdoor elements, wearing PPE when required and working outside in inclement weather on a daily basis
- Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for extended periods
- Requires writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions
- May be required at times to work long hours, during the golf season, which will include weekends and statutory holidays
Compensation:
- Pay: $18.00 - $19.00 per hour (based on experience)
