Requirements

- Language: English
- Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate
- Experience: 1 year to less than 2 years
- Work setting: Restaurant and bar
- Food Safety Certificate
- Cuisine specialties: Canadian and international
- Criminal record check

Key responsibilities

- Determine appropriate food portion sizes and related costs.
- Plan menus and estimate the food requirements needed to prepare them.
- Prepare and cook complete meals, individual dishes and other foods.
- Prepare suitable dishes for customers with food allergies or intolerances.




- Inspect kitchen and food-service areas to ensure proper standards are maintained.
- Train staff in food preparation, cooking and secure food-handling practices.
- Supervise kitchen staff and helpers.
- Maintain inventory and records of food, supplies and equipment.
- Clean the kitchen and work areas.
