Schedule: Weekday afternoons during the school year, approximately 3:00–5:30 p.m. on assigned days. Exact days will be discussed based on program needs and availability.
About Branches
Branches Arts & Community Development Network provides accessible after-school arts programming for children ages 8–12. Through music, art, games, and community activities, we create a safe and welcoming environment where children can build confidence, creativity, perseverance, and meaningful connections.
Position Summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dependable Guitar Teacher to lead beginner group guitar lessons in our after-school program. The successful candidate will make learning guitar approachable and enjoyable while helping students develop foundational skills, confidence, and positive practice habits.
Outside of lesson time, the Guitar Teacher will also help supervise students, lead games and group activities, and support the general operation of the after-school program.
Responsibilities
- Plan and lead engaging beginner guitar lessons for children ages 8–12
- Teach foundational skills such as chords, rhythm, strumming, note reading, and ensemble playing
- Adapt instruction to accommodate different learning styles and experience levels
- Create a positive and inclusive environment that encourages participation and creativity
- Help students develop consistent practice habits and confidence
- Work collaboratively with other Branches teachers to plan programming and performances
- Assist with games, student supervision, program setup, and end-of-day activities
- Help maintain an organized and safe learning environment
- Complete incident reports and other light administrative tasks when required
- Participate in occasional performances, recitals, or special events
Qualifications
- Strong guitar skills and a solid understanding of beginner guitar technique
- Experience teaching guitar or working with children is an asset
- A music degree, diploma, ARCT, or equivalent training is an asset but is not required
- Ability to engage and encourage children with different abilities and learning styles
- Strong communication, reliability, and teamwork skills
- Patience, creativity, and enthusiasm for helping young musicians grow
- Must provide a satisfactory criminal record check, including a vulnerable sector check, before beginning employment
