Lead - HW and Embedded team We run AI on machines a kilometre and a half underground, where GPS is gone and ordinary WiFi dies.

The IoT device we install on the haul truck is the hardest thing we build. It reads the machine, holds a mesh link, applies Edge compute, survives dust and heat and vibration, and never drops the safety beacon. With our brand-current Dispatch solution, we are now moving it onto a rugged tablet with a small board we design ourselves, and we need one person to own that device from the silicon to the shift.

This is a builder's seat. You will lead a small group of excellent engineers and still read the schematic and the firmware yourself. Hardware, RF, mesh, firmware, and the final call on what ships are all yours.

Most engineers should not apply. If you have spent your career waiting for a problem this hard, write to me and tell me the hardest thing you have ever shipped. What you bring

Five to Ten or more years in embedded systems, including real leadership of a hardware and firmware team as a player-coach who still touches the work.

Hardware and PCB design depth: multi-layer schematic and layout, power architecture, signal and power integrity, EMI and EMC, and design for manufacturing.

Firmware to the metal in C and C++, bare-metal and RTOS, CAN and J1939, drivers, and board bring-up on real hardware.

RF and wireless that hold up in harsh places: WiFi mesh, HaLow or sub-GHz, antennas and link budgets, and the instinct for what breaks underground.

Product ownership, where you set the direction, made the cut decisions, and were accountable for what shipped. A plus

Rugged, industrial, automotive, or defence hardware, with the ruggedization and certification that follows, including IP, MIL-STD, and ATEX.

Rugged tablet and Android fleet provisioning through EMM, plus on-device AI on an NPU such as the QCS6490, Jetson, or Hailo.

Mining, heavy equipment, or dispatch and fleet-management exposure, and comfort with 433 MHz TPMS and OBD-II.

Secure boot, device attestation, and over-the-air updates at fleet scale, and the anti-clone discipline that protects a design through offshore manufacturing.

FPGA and RTL are welcome, though the roadmap has moved past them, so this is a bonus rather than a bar. What you should know going in The work is in Calgary and in person. We can consider a Toronto, in person for exceptional candidates.

You report to the CEO, own the roadmap for the device, and carry founder-level technical weight with matching equity in the company.

Many OEMs who built heavy machinery and Tires are now building on us, so the standard is high. [ apply / message me ]
