HDD LOCATOR

Calgary, AB | $35.00–$40.00 per hour

PTL Group is a Calgary-based HDD and Hydrovac contractor specializing in underground utility construction. With 7 Vermeer HDD rigs, 10 Hydrovac units, our own shop and continued expansion into British Columbia, we are looking for an experienced HDD Locator to join our growing team.

This is an opportunity for an experienced locator who takes pride in doing the job properly, works well as part of a crew and wants steady work with a company investing in its people, equipment and continued growth.

We are COR certified and committed to maintaining safe, efficient and well-run job sites. Our ownership and management team remain actively involved in field operations, giving our crews direct access to the people making decisions.

What You'll Do

- Operate the Falcon F5 locating system and work directly with the driller to plan and execute bore paths
- Maintain clear, consistent communication with the driller throughout each drill shot
- Review and interpret utility locates, permits, blueprints and work orders before work begins
- Assist with the safe installation of underground conduit while protecting existing infrastructure
- Identify potential conflicts and changing ground or site conditions during drilling operations
- Set up and maintain safe, organized work sites, including traffic and pedestrian control
- Operate company trucks and trailers to transport equipment and materials
- Complete daily equipment inspections, preventative maintenance and required safety documentation
- Work alongside the crew and contribute to safe, efficient production

What We're Looking For

- Previous hands-on HDD locating experience
- Experience with Falcon F5 locating systems preferred
- Vermeer equipment experience considered an asset




- Experience in shallow utility construction, including telecommunications, power and/or gas
- Strong understanding of ground disturbance procedures and underground utility safety
- Ability to read and understand utility locates, drawings, permits and bore plans
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with drillers and ground crews
- Mechanically inclined and comfortable troubleshooting equipment in the field
- Reliable, adaptable and safety-conscious
- Able to work outdoors in varying weather and site conditions
- Able to lift and move materials weighing 50+ lbs

Calgary-area drilling and locating experience is strongly preferred. Tickets & Licensing

- Valid driver's licence required — Class 5 minimum
- Class 1 licence is considered an asset
- Clean driver's abstract required
- Current CSTS 2020
- Willing to complete additional required company safety training, including First Aid, Ground Disturbance Level 2, WHMIS and H2S Alive, as applicable

Schedule

Typically 5–6 days per week, depending on project requirements, with occasional out-of-town work.

Compensation

$35.00–$40.00 per hour, based on HDD locating experience, qualifications and licensing.
