IHE proudly operates heavy equipment training sites throughout Western Canada and has been training Canada's future operators since 2005.

POSITION SCOPE
This role is critical to ensuring the delivery of high-quality training while maintaining IHE's standards of safety, professionalism, student experience, and operational excellence.
Successful instructors serve as mentors, coaches, role models, and industry ambassadors while helping students build the skills necessary to succeed in the heavy equipment industry.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Student Training & Development
- Deliver practical and classroom-based heavy equipment instruction
- Adapt training methods and communication styles to support a diverse student population
- Provide calm, professional, and constructive mentorship to students throughout their training journey
- Conduct student assessments and evaluations in accordance with IHE training standards
- Complete daily and weekly marking of written and practical student work
- Prepare students for real-world industry expectations and workplace success
Safety Leadership
- Promote and enforce the highest standards of safety at all times
- Lead and participate in daily toolbox meetings
- Ensure all student and site safety policies are understood and followed
- Maintain active awareness of students under your supervision at all times
- Report hazards, incidents, near misses, environmental concerns, and safety violations immediately
- Maintain current First Aid knowledge and provide assistance when required
Customer Service & Professionalism
- Deliver exceptional customer service to students, funders, industry partners, contractors, and visitors
- Represent IHE with professionalism, confidence, and integrity
- Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive learning environment
- Support positive site culture through teamwork, communication, and accountability
Operational Support
- Open and close site facilities as assigned
- Maintain radio communication and operational awareness throughout the day
- Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and professional training environment
- Report visitors and external stakeholders in accordance with site procedures
- Support site operations and special projects as required
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Experience
- Minimum 10 years of diverse Heavy Equipment Operating experience
- Experience across at least four of the following sectors: Civil Construction, Mining, Forestry, Industrial Construction, Oil & Gas, Environmental Services, Demolition
Equipment Experience Minimum 10 years of operating experience on at least five of the following:
- Excavator
- Dozer
- Grader
- Loader
- Articulated Rock Truck
- Rubber Tire Backhoe
Leadership & Communication
- Minimum 2 years of leadership, mentoring, coaching, or training experience
- Passion for developing the next generation of operators
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Professional, respectful, and team-oriented approach to training and teamwork
Certifications
- Valid Level 1 First Aid Certification
- Ground Disturbance Certification (Level 2 preferred)
- Valid driver's license
