HEAVY EQUIPMENT TECHNICIAN

Wage: $55.00–$58.00 per hour + Benefits
RDE Group is currently seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Technician to join our growing team of construction professionals based out of Stony Plain, Alberta.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled technician who takes pride in their work, values quality and safety, and enjoys the challenges of working on a diverse fleet of heavy construction and mining equipment.
As a Heavy Equipment Technician with RDE Group, you will be responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair, and preventative maintenance of heavy equipment in both shop and field environments. The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently, troubleshooting complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, and supporting our operations team in maintaining a safe, reliable, and productive fleet.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair a wide range of heavy construction and mining equipment, including:
- Articulated Dump Trucks (ADTs)
- Dozers
- Motor Graders
- Excavators
- Loaders and other heavy equipment
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and equipment inspections.
- Diagnose and repair hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and powertrain systems.
- Identify equipment deficiencies and recommend appropriate repair solutions.
- Complete accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, work orders, and other required documentation.
- Perform field repairs and preventative maintenance at customer and project sites.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns and provide timely troubleshooting and repair support.
- Work collaboratively with fellow technicians, apprentices, operators, supervisors, and management.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow RDE Group's Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and procedures at all times.
- Travel to project sites throughout Western Canada as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician certification required
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience working with heavy construction, mining, or similar equipment.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities.
- Demonstrated experience with hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and diesel systems.
- Class 5 Driver's License
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, service information, schematics, and warranty specifications.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a strong mechanical and technical aptitude.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also contributing effectively as part of a team.
- Comfortable working in field, remote, and varying environmental conditions.
- Strong commitment to protected work practices and quality workmanship.
- Willingness and ability to travel to project sites throughout Western Canada.
