On-Ice Testing Staff — Paid, Seasonal

We run athletic testing for minor hockey associations across Calgary and the surrounding area. We're hiring on-ice staff for the upcoming season.

What the job looks like

Our equipment captures the data automatically. Your job is to make sure the data is worth capturing.

That means the timing gates are set up right and working, the drill is being run exactly the way it's supposed to be, and every player goes through the same test the same way. Kids will cut corners, jump the start, or run the pattern wrong — usually not on purpose. You catch it, correct it, and re-run them if needed. A test that isn't run properly is a number we can't use.

The work is physical and fast. You're on your skates for the full session managing groups of players, and the schedule doesn't wait. Sessions are concentrated into a few weeks and run mostly evenings and weekends, which works well around a class or work schedule.

Responsibilities

- Set up, check, and monitor testing equipment at your assigned station
- Demonstrate each drill clearly so players know exactly what's being asked




- Watch every rep and enforce the protocol — correct form, correct start, correct pattern
- Re-run players when a test doesn't meet standard
- Keep groups organized and sessions on time
- Help with setup, teardown, and player check-in

Qualifications

- Strong skating ability — you need to keep up and demonstrate cleanly
- Hockey background as a player, coach, or both
- Attention to detail. Most of this job is noticing the small thing that went wrong
- Comfortable directing groups of kids from U9 to U18
- Punctual and reliable — arena ice times don't move
- Own skates, helmet, and gloves
- Reliable transportation to rinks in and around Calgary

No prior testing experience required. Full training on the equipment and protocols before your first session.

Details

Seasonal, part-time. Evenings, weekends, and some early mornings during testing season. Paid per session. Versatile scheduling — tell us your availability and we'll build around it.

Pay: $25.00-$30.00 per hour
