Human Resources Business Partner

Location: Downtown Calgary / Hybrid

Reports to: Manager, Human Resources The Opportunity

Bromwich+Smith is looking for a collaborative and experienced Human Resources Business Partner to support leaders and employees across the organization.

In this role, you will provide both strategic and day-to-day HR support to designated business groups, helping leaders navigate people decisions, strengthen team performance, and create a positive and consistent employee experience.

You will work across the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, development, engagement, retention, and organizational change. You will also use employee feedback and HR data to identify trends, improve processes, and help leaders make informed decisions.

This opportunity is well suited to someone who can balance strong relationship-building with sound judgment, practical problem-solving, and a willingness to take ownership of issues from beginning to end.

What You’ll Do

Partner with Leaders

- Build trusted relationships with leaders and act as a primary HR partner for assigned business areas.
- Provide practical advice and coaching on employee matters, team challenges, performance, and people-management decisions.
- Support the implementation of HR programs and priorities in a way that aligns with business needs and the employee experience.
- Help leaders understand and apply HR policies, practices, and programs consistently.
- Identify people-related risks, trends, and opportunities and bring forward recommendations.
- Support organizational changes and help leaders communicate and manage change effectively.

Support Talent Acquisition and Employee Development
- Manage full-cycle recruitment in partnership with hiring leaders, from identifying workforce needs through selection and onboarding.




- Support onboarding and integration of new employees.Partner with leaders on retention, succession planning, workforce planning, and internal career development.
- Identify employee and team development needs and work with Learning and Development to support appropriate training.
- Help leaders recognize high-potential employees, skill gaps, and opportunities for internal mobility.
- Support performance management and employee development conversations throughout the year.

Coach Through Employee Relations
- Provide guidance and coaching to leaders managing employee relations concerns.
- Support performance improvement, attendance, workplace conduct, conflict resolution, accommodation, and other employee matters.
- Help ensure employee issues are handled fairly, respectfully, consistently, and confidentially.
- Support investigations and other formal employee-relations processes as required.
- Interpret and apply employment legislation, human rights requirements, organizational policies, and workplace practices.
- Escalate complex or higher-risk employee matters to the Manager, Human Resources when appropriate.

Support Engagement and Organizational Improvement
- Review employee engagement feedback and help leaders develop practical action plans.
- Work with leaders to turn employee feedback into meaningful and visible follow-through.
- Use HR data and trends to identify areas of concern and opportunities for improvement.
- Support the development and implementation of HR programs, processes, policies, and tools.
- Identify opportunities to improve the HR experience for employees and people leaders.
- Contribute to initiatives that strengthen engagement, performance, retention, and organizational effectiveness.

What You Bring
- Several years of progressively responsible Human Resources experience, ideally in an HR Business Partner, HR Generalist, or similar role.
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- A Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation, or progress toward one, would be considered an asset.
- Experience supporting leaders with employee relations, performance management, recruitment, and employee development.
- Working knowledge of employment legislation, human rights, and HR best practices.
- Experience managing full-cycle recruitment and supporting workforce planning.
- Strong coaching and relationship-building skills.




- Sound judgment and the ability to handle sensitive or confidential matters appropriately.
- Robust written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and follow issues through to resolution.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
- Comfort working with HR systems, employee data, and reporting to support decision-making.

Experience with employee engagement surveys, organizational change, succession planning, or HR program development would be considered an asset.
