As an HVAC Technician, you will play a critical role in maintaining the systems that keep our recreation facilities operating at their best. From commercial heating and cooling equipment and rooftop units to ventilation systems, pumps, motors, air handlers, fan coils, and building automation systems, you will use your technical expertise to diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain a wide range of HVAC equipment and systems across RRC facilities.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving problems, working independently, and taking pride in quality workmanship. You will balance preventative and predictive maintenance with responsive repairs, contribute to HVAC projects and commissioning, and work with contractors and suppliers to keep systems reliable and efficient. No two days are necessarily the same—and your work will have a direct impact on the people who use our facilities every day.

Your Role The HVAC (Heating, Ventilation &
- Air Conditioning)
Technician will be responsible for performing onsite maintenance to HVAC systems and equipment. They will perform simple to complex duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain equipment according to safety, predictive and productive maintenance. The HVAC Technician shall be responsible for keeping the HVAC systems functioning at optimum levels and back-up systems maintained within all Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC) facilities.
Your Responsibilities
- Diagnose the cause of problems and/or failures in HVAC systems for the purpose of identifying equipment and/or systems repairs and/or replacements.
- Assist in maintaining and creating procedures and status of work orders.
- Inspect all HVAC systems and their components (i.e. Heating units, building exhaust fans, ventilation units, etc.) to evaluate condition, identify necessary repairs and recommend preventative maintenance.
- Install heating and air conditioning equipment, ventilation systems, and small equipment.
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance of commercial rooftop heating and cooling equipment.
- General maintenance of ventilation equipment (i.e. Filter replacements, coil cleaning, drive belt repairs)
- Set priorities for preventative maintenance work, maintenance requisitions and scheduled work.
- Inform Management regarding procedures and status of work orders.
- Prepare written materials (i.e. Repair status, activity logs, etc.) as required using the AMERESCO Asset
- Planner maintenance management system.
- Assisting Manager, Operations in ordering parts and dealing with contractors.
- Assisting Manager, Operations in HVAC related project.
- Repair heating and air conditioning systems and/or components (i.e. Pumps, motors, air handlers, fan coils, piping, etc.) including gas connections.
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working order.
- Transport a variety of tools, equipment and supplies to ensure availability of materials required at the job site.
- Participate in meetings, workshops, training and seminars as required.
- Read and interpret shop drawings and control schematics.
- Assists with start-up and commissioning of building automation systems.
- Provide support functions with other Facilities Management operations and maintenance as required.
- Comply with department procedures at all times and ensure building standards and efficiencies are maintained.
- On-Call duties as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Education &
- Experience
- Journeyman HVAC.
- Gas Fitter A is an asset.
- Elevated work platform/zoom boom Certificate is an asset.
- Confined Space entry ticket is an asset.
- Current Intermediate First Aid/CPR/AED Certification or equivalent (including CPR C) is an asset.
- Experience with both commercial and industrial HVAC systems and kitchen equipment is an asset.
- Experience in installation techniques and refrigerant handling.
- Experience with repairing and maintaining both hot water and electric heating systems.
- Experience troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining rooftop units, energy recovery ventilation (ERV), heat recovery ventilation (HRV), and maintenance/repair on kitchen equipment.

- Abilities
- Knowledge of start-up and commissioning of building automation systems.
- Trained in economizer operation and set-up.
- Attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
- Excellent time management and project management skills.
- High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning.
- Practical knowledge of building automation controls.
- Thrive in a team environment, enjoy working as a team member as well as independently
- Ability to demonstrate customer service and decision making skills.

Working Conditions
- This position requires a flexible schedule including statutory holidays, early morning, late night and weekend work.
- The position involves frequent movement, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- This position involves working under variable temperature conditions, in indoor and outdoor settings.
- This position may be exposed to loud noises and will require an individual to be able to concentrate in a busy environment.
- This position may include heavy lifting of supplies and equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Manual dexterity to operate standard mechanical HVAC equipment.
